What do you think? |

Anyway, it's what I expected. I like it. Kinda short album, but their albums always are. |
I'm loving what I've heard so far...BYOB is awesome. I'm not surprised though...System of a Down rocks my socks. :)
|
omg.. im still listening to BYOB.. ive seen the video twice today! and listened to the song like 50 times today!
ahh! im addicted LALALALALAALALAL! |
Someone emailed it to me, but I haven't got around to getting it yet. I have heard Cigaro and (of course) BYOB. Cigaro is outstanding!! BYOB isn't bad, but not great either.
I've been disappointed with them since Toxicity, but those songs made me give them another chance. |
It's pretty good. They're goofy as hell.
Sometimes I don't quite get what they are getting at, though. For example, on "Violent Porn" they say "It's a violent pornography, choking chicks and sodomy, the kind of shit that's on your TV" and then goes to mention "Can you see the brainwashing?" Hahah wtf? What's that supposed to mean? Brainwashing with "violent porn" is happening? I mean, yeah, that kind of porn exists but they act like every household in america is catching on or something, haha. |
I got it this weekend and listened to it on the way to work. I liked it on my first listen. We'll see if that sticks. It is a short album, under 37 min.
The funny is that it is part 1 of a double album. The second part is to be released in a few months. I fucking hate when bands do this. It's a shameless cash grab. The worst thing is that based on the length of "part 1" they'd probably be able to fit both 'part 1' AND 'part 2' on the same album. If not, they could find SOMETHING to cut. They may be opposed to American imperialism but they sure like capitalism... |
camping out for tickets to see 'em at 9:30 club in D.C. this wed.
good album, wish it could be longer. steal this album points straight to mesmerize, IMO. |
iamtheone: i didn't know you liked SoaD. I downloaded their album, um......yeah, bought it.
Anyway, I like it quite a bit. |
I like it. The leaked version i got (and many others) i don't think is mastered. Will sound alot better when it's actually released.
If it is mastered, its a horrible recording. |
bendsley: Yep, I am kinda bias. Whatever they put out I would probably like, and I really like the harmonies, the different elements of music that they blended together nicely on this album. This is a part of a 2 disc set. Hyptonize is comming later this year I think......

there is a retail cd out now .. I am amazed I like it alot and would love to see them live
|
I thought it was a pretty good album, but not something I'd continue listening to for a long time. I listened to it a bunch the day it came out on the net, and it began dwindling quickly right away.
However, "Radio/Video" is stuck in my head as we speak. The chorus of "Hey man, look at me rocking out, I'm on the radio!" cracks me up and is catchy as hell. As for BYOB, it's a fun song, but I suspect it will be played to death in about a week. I still remember hearing Chop Suey for the first time and liking it a lot and thinking about how much I would hate that song after a while and after hearing it sung literally by most of the people I know and even their mothers. I'd bet BYOB suffers the same fate. Basically: Definitely worth a DL, but I wouldn't buy it. |
Got this yesterday and I love it. Sounds fresh, I like how they've tried some new things and how it's somehow less serious than their previous album. BYOB, Radio/Video and Violent Pornography are all awesome.

Cigaro still kicks ass though! |
Haha, I can't stand the music but the lyrics are hillarious. Pure gold.

I've listened to this CD over 10 times over the past few days. I'm sure partly because it's so short, but it helps that so many of the tracks are so damn catchy.

Oh I don;t have one of them free music programs anymore....the last f**ked up my computer! |
I have to say, that ever since toxicity, they have been getting worse and worse. The album is good, but it is no toxicity. Violent Pornography, BYOB, and Question have to be my favorite songs.
|
BYOB is one really well written song. I think I have played it 50 times in the last three days. the different themes all fit together real well. Definitely a great anti-war song!

I love this cd. Lost in Hollywood is just so good and so different. Radio/Video is really catchy. Every song on this cd is fun to listen to. I bought it the day it came out and I have not taken it out of my cd player in my car once yet. and to Stompy, I think the brainwashing thing was meant to be aimed towards television. One of the lines right before it says brainwashing says something like "Turn off the TV". |
i think you are right yawhateva in that toxicity was definately the most commercial, infact when i talk to people who were introduced to them through it they generally dislike the original/stealthisalbum.
listening to violent pornography, my guess would have to be that its a play on violence being all over the tv and porn being shunned away.or violence is a form of porn to people. and old school/lost in hollywood are my favorites for sure. serj and darin were at my local radio station 2 days before mesmerize was relised and they said they actually saw tony danza at a baseball stadium and he cut in line, hence them putting it in. |
that tony danza thing is funny but those two are my most hated songs on the album. They are just boring and don't fit the aggressiveness of the rest of the album. Other than those two songs, it's their best work yet.
|
I got their self-titled album a long time ago and thought it was good, then when toxicity came out my best friend got really in to them, so i dug out the self-titled for him and he got me really into them, then Steal This Album came out and it...basically, sucked, but Mesmerize makes up for it sucking, it is fucking awesome, ive practically listened to it non-stop from the time i got it, in the car, at school, at home, fucking amazing. My favorite songs have to be Sad Statue, Old School Hollywood, Lost in Hollywood and Violent Pornogrophy but i love the whole album.

First Week's Worldwide Sales Top 800,000
System of a Down has done it again. The band's fourth album, "Mezmerize" (American Recordings/Columbia Records), enters the Billboard/SoundScan chart in the Number One position, as did their CD "Toxicity" when it was released in September, 2001. Since the release of "Mezmerize" last Tuesday, May 17, the CD has scanned an astounding 453,000 copies domestically. "Mezmerize" is the first disc in a 2-disc set with disc two, "Hypnotize," expected out late this fall. "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" was produced by Rick Rubin and System's Daron Malakian. "Mezmerize" also came in at #1 on numerous music charts around the world including those in Germany, Canada, Austria, France, Sweden, Japan, Switzerland, Colombia, Greece, Brazil, and New Zealand, bringing the first week's worldwide sales in excess of 800,000 copies. "B.Y.O.B.," the first single from "Mezmerize," is a Top 5 track at radio, and the companion promo video has been in high rotation at MTV, MTV2 and the Fuse Network for weeks. "Mezmerize" has also scored big with the press: "A stunning work." - Associated Press "Every track burns with urgency." - USA Today "One of the most inventive, unique albums in years." - Newsday "Insanely good." - Entertainment Weekly "Everything on 'Mezmerize' hits and splits with viciously honed purpose." - Rolling Stone "Some of the smartest music in mainstream rock." - Wired "SOAD's music makes you wish more rock bands would take such brave and impressive risks." - Newsweek "Probably the best record NME has heard all year." - NME |
Hands down one of the best cd's of the year in my opinion. Organized chaos has never sounded so good to me. As a matter of fact, this is the album that got me interested in the band.
|
This CD has really really grown on me. I was surprised how much I found myself humming/thinking of the tunes.
I look forward to Hypnotize. |

Unless you're talking about Steal This Album, which doesn't count because it's more or less a B-Sides and rarities type of deal, similar to Nirvana's Incesticide. Yeah it's a full CD of songs, but nothing really new or recent. |
Who are Danny and Lisa?
