audio engineers/producers
Are there any audio engineers or producers in the forum? I have been thinking about starting up a recording studio and was wondering how much schooling is really necessary to be an audio engineer.
Basically, what can I pick up by doing, and what I will just have to suck up and go to a school to learn. |

It's going to be much more of a monetary thing than anything else. If you have enough money to put together something decent in your house, you probably wont need to go to school if you can keep yourself on track, but if you're like me and you dont have 50,000 or so dollars sitting around, you're probably going to need to get into a school to get time on the appropriate equipment.

I just got accepted to the Conservatory, i'm hoping to attend in spring. http://www.cras.org/
The tuition for two years is about 14K, which is half as much as that school in FL (sorry, i cant remember the name right now) but the conservatory is considered (From what i've heard) to be the second best in the industry. check it out. |

It really depends on what you want to accomplish. What are your goals as far as this recording studio? Do you have ANY experience at all in this field? Do you have any idea what tools are involved in recording music? What about competition in your area? I'm not talking about big studios ... just the studios on your level.
