Favorite Song To Play
Okay, another favorites list, let's get some good ones.
What is your favorite song to play? It can be on any instrument, or multiple instruments. Just list the instruments that you like playing them on. Please list in the Artist-Title format, and limit it to 10 songs. Here's mine: Ben Folds Five - Brick (piano) Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places (guitar/vocals) Tool - Schism (Bass) Giuseppe Giovanni - Caro Mio Ben (Voice) The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love - (Vocals) Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven (Guitar/voice) Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man (guitar/voice) Shinedown - .45 (guitar/voice) Have fun!!! |
Nirvana - In Bloom (drums)
Hands down, best drumming ever. |
Finally, a response!!!
I have to add this one in: Stevie Ray Vaughan - Scuttle Buttin' (guitar) |
Peter Gabriel - Red Rain (piano/voice)
Tom Waits - Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis (piano/voice) Tom Waits - New Coat of Paint (piano/voice). OK, pretty much any Tom Waits song that lends itself to solo piano and voice. Of course, I do them in my own style. That's what makes it fun. |
Actually had to do some thinking on this one, so many to pick from, I'm pretty sure some of these are subject to change if you asked me a week or two later.
Drums: Rush - "One Little Victory" Guitar and Vocals - Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Free Bird" Guitar: Jeff Healey - "Communication Breakdown" Vocals: Motley Crue - "Home Sweet Home" Brass: Chicago - "25 or 6 to 4" Acoustic Guitar: Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven" Keyboards: Boston - "Foreplay/Long Time" |
Bass:
Iron Maiden - Aces High & Phantom of the Opera Rush - Distant Early Warning Cake - Long Line of Cars Vocal: Britney Spears - Baby One More Time Bush - Machinehead Tom Lehrer - Poisoning Pigeons in the Park Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones |
Breathe - Pink Floyd (guitar)
Voodoo Chile (slight return) - Jimi Hendrix (guitar) Over The Hills And Far Away - Led Zeppelin (guitar) Black Dog - Led Zeppelin (guitar) Crazy Train - Ozzy (guitar, this one I play on an acoustic at about 3/4 speed and sing it with a southern-drawl) |
Just a couple favourites; (guitar)
The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin,..well all of Zeppelin Blackbird - Paul McCartney Also I usually tend to borrow heavily from Wes Montgomery, Coltrane, Miles Davis as well as Jimi, Eddie and Stevie and all other influences combined. I like playing my own shit too. That's what I play best. |
On my electric guitar...
Fly By Night - Rush Cocaine - Clapton on mandolin... Cucoo's Nest - Traditional, although Nickel Creek has an awesome rendition of it Tenessee Blues - Bill Monroe Cherokee Shuffle - traditional |
I love playing just about any song from Dave Matthews. Sometimes it's slow going (unusual fingering and all that,) but once you get it....well, go nuts.
I'll second Tears in Heaven, there is a lot of nuance in that song making it difficult to both sing and play, but fantasically satisfying once you do. I also like... Where did you sleep last night - Nirvana Melissa - The Allman Bros. No Rain - Blind Melon Day Tripper - The Beatles Long Black Veil - Johnny Cash and Keb Mo's version Robert Johnson's Love in Vain Coronaboy is right, there are just so many to choose from.... |
anathema one last goodbye
|
I just got back from an impromptu jam session where we played some OAR. So much fun!!!
|
Clapton - Tears In Heaven (Acoustic)
Anything from the Hives (both singing and guitar) Audioslave/ R.A.T.M. (Just trying to figure out what Tom Morello is doing is half the fun!) Violent Femmes - Kiss Off (the only song I can both sign and play at the same time. I have horrible coordination :( ) Queen Liliuokalani - Aloha 'Oe (Ukulele) Who doesn't like the smooth vibes of a good Uke? |
Ahh, good thread. After this post, I'm going to look up some of these songs. Nice to diversify myself.
With that in mind... here's something maybe a little different for some of you. One of my favorites on acoustic is this Hawaiian slack key piece. Silky smooth and perfect for winding down with the sunset going down over the ocean from your porch view in the backyard. If that's not your view, it'll still feel that way! Dennis Kamakahi - Wahine 'Ilikea |
