BEST BEHIND THE MUSIC EVER

Watching the newest BTM on G-N-F'N R and I'll tell you, it is the best BTM I've ever seen.

I was a huge G-N-R fan but forgot how BIG they were, how much fun in the beginning they were and then how totally nuts Axl got.

The show is flowing fast and just covering what it can in an hour but we are getting great input from Slash and Matt Sorum, Gilby and even a stroked out Adler showed.

It just seems so sad that a band with so much talent destructed like that. If you could rate a band after only a couple albums (Appetite and Lies) the greatest, G-N-R may have been the one.

Of course you are talking about a nutcase in Axl, who could have been as big as any rocker but shall now forever be a whatever happened to? case. Lot's of zingers thrown at Axl.

The best part of the show is Slash's last words about a reunion, "they can throw all kinds of money at us, but unless we're on the same page and have mutual respect it ain't happening and we are so far from that well...."

The only thing that would have made this better would have been to have Axl provide something.

Also, they did thrown in a clip of Velvet Revolver and I may have to go get the CD.

Overall Best BTM EVER.

Crap, I can't believe I forgot it was coming on. I guess I will have to catch one of the thousand reruns.

platypus 07-06-2004 07:19 AM

Watched it twice over the weekend. It was that good.

But did I tape it? D'oh!!!

pan6467 07-06-2004 08:30 AM

Slash was just so cool and he got some good jabs at Axl. That in itself was worth the watch.

The saddest was seeing what Adler has become. Truly a sad case, hope he has found some happiness in life.

Kilmeister 07-06-2004 09:48 AM

I saw that.

Now, I like Buckethead and Brain as much as the next guy, but what the hell is Axl doing?

axl wouldnt of done anything without a huge paycheck in front of him, the self righteous ass hole that he is.

My favorite BTM episdoes feature AC/DC and Poison.

AC/DC because the brothers, especially Malcom, are just plain charming.

Poison because CeCe is priceless.

"Funny as it sounds, in LA it is more acceptable to be a junkie than to be fat." (my best recollection of his comment.)

Derwood 07-06-2004 11:52 AM

I wish they had mentioned the fact that The Offspring named their last album "Chinese Democracy" as a jab at Axl and how long that album has taken to get made

A new CD by the former members of GNR...and a new Behind The Music on GNR...what are the odds!?!?

Nothing will ever beat the Leif Garrett BTM.

pan6467 07-06-2004 04:59 PM

Ah yes the Leif Garrett BTM how can I forget.

"I forgive you, man. But why haven't I heard from you in 20 years.?"

"I love you, man and thanks for not telling anyone that we were bumping uglies when I wrecked."

(my take on the "reunion scene." with added humor.)

absorbentishe 07-06-2004 05:33 PM

I watched it, and thought it was pretty good. Worth all the jabs at Axhole. They were never one of my favs, but it sure brought back some memories...

God of Thunder 07-06-2004 05:59 PM

I'm beginning to think they don't like Axl very much.

I love the way they took jabs at the way the new GnR album has been promised for a decade and Velvet Revolver has one of the hottest albums out right now.

pan6467 07-06-2004 06:08 PM

Poor Axl, he just wants to be relevant and swim with dolphins.

I loved the way the one guy said, "Axl just wants to make the most relevant album possible, but in 10 years times have changed and keep changing." Sounds like Axl is Ahab chasing his white whale.

Before watching this I had bought into "they were all like brothers until Axl went nuts" PR , but it sounds like they were never all that close. Perhaps that tension is what makes a band great.

I'm gonna check this out tonight.

One interesting thing that I never knew before was that Slash is half black. I saw a clip (I think on VH1.com) about how Axl offended him with "One in a Million"

pan6467 07-07-2004 08:07 AM

Stompy, that is something that struck me odd, because I could have sworn at the time of it's release Slash backed Axl (it was then made public at that time Slash was biracial) and instead of acting like it was a swipe actually said it was no big deal. Of course I maybe mistaken, or it could have been just press and not Slash's true feelings.

kutulu 07-07-2004 09:23 AM

I used to really like GnR. The first concert I went to was FNM/Metallica/GnR (first show after James's accident). I still think of that as one of the best shows I've been to.

Nowdays I could give a fuck about Asshole Rose. I hope the album never comes out.

HeAtHeN 07-07-2004 09:45 AM

Megadeth's was great too (but then ('m a huge fan).

Stompy 07-08-2004 09:24 PM

I would've given anything to see the FNM/Metallica/GNR concert back then considering all 3 were my favorite.

Stompy 07-09-2004 11:09 AM

I also didn't know that Axl forced the other members into signing GNR rights to him. He told them "either sign the rights over to me, or we're done".. and they did.

This was shortly after Use Your Illusion came out, when they were still HUGE.

What a fucked up thing to do.

earth2murf 07-10-2004 04:37 AM

alice cooper had a great behind the music ,though i only saw it once.the best behind the music was the Blind Melon one, cause shannon hoon video taped evey thing that was gonig on so you got to see all the madness happen, it was scary and sad
