Songs that mention the bands that sing them...

Can anyone think of songs that mention the very bands that sing them? There are a few. Some of them do so, coincidentally but others are quite deliberate. Here's my list and I'm sure you can all add to it...

Actual References:
 • Lucas - Lucas With the Lid Off ('Cause it's Lucas with the lid off...)
 • Prince - My Name Is Prince (My name is Prince and I am funky...)
 • Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun Tonight (Everybody have fun, tonight. Everybody Wang Chung, tonight...)
 • Backstreet Boys - Everybody (Rock your body right, Backstreet's back, alright...)
 • Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby (Shay with a gauge and Vanilla with a nine...)
Coincidental Mentionings:
 • Big Country - In a Big Country (In a big country, dreams stay with you...)
 • Talk Talk - Talk Talk (All you do to me is talk talk...)
 • Queen - Killer Queen (She's a killer queen, gunpowder gelatine...)
 • Human League - Human (Human, born to make mistakes...)
 • The Who - Who are you (Who are you. Who who, who who...)

Just about every Limp Bizkit song... I'm confident that My Generation and Rollin do. Also, Take a Look Around (M:I 2 song). Then again, Fred Durst is a tool and can't rhyme so what can you do.

311 - Livin' and Rockin' (Can't nobody do it like 311 fuckin up competition cause there really is none)

kutulu 05-20-2004 02:54 PM

It seems like every rapper has to plug himself 100 times in each song. It's one of the reasons I hate rap.

Metallica - Hit the Lights
"We'll never stop, we'll never quit cause we're Metallica."

The Dismemberment Plan - The Dismemberment Plan Gets Rich (fun song)
The Dismemberment Plan - Do the Standing Still

In Fargo, six or seven kids watch the Plan in a strip mall
I thought they were bored out of their skulls but it turned out they were having a ball, uh-huh!
Whah-oo-ooh, well they were do the brand new step that everybody
isn't moving to!
They were doing the standing still.

rockzilla 05-20-2004 05:13 PM

The Prodigy - Diesel Power

Fast forward, I move and I swings toward
Exit load, put your brain in right mode
Selected mix, the man will perfect the fix (the man with perfected fix?) has lightly bite me
Copy zimmers (Xerox?), cops handblocks

You cant knock some out there
Ill be (upbeat?) lifting, shifting, persisting, intelligent kingpin
Keepin astrology
As I roll with Prodigy

With Diesel Power
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fantastically
Blows your mind drastically, fanta...

Geez.. KMFDM is the dominator of this category. The most self-absorbed rap artist doesn't even mention himself as much as they do.

iron maiden - iron maiden

Won't you come into my room, I wanna show you all my wares.
I just want to see your blood, I just want to stand and stare.
See the blood begin to flow as it falls upon the floor.
Iron Maiden can't be fought, Iron Maiden can't be sought.

*Chorus*:
Oh Well, wherever, wherever you are,
Iron Maiden's gonna get you, no matter how far.
See the blood flow watching it shed up above my head.
Iron Maiden wants you for dead.

Won't you come into my room, I wanna show you all my wares.
I just want to see your blood, I just want to stand and stare.
See the blood begin to flow as it falls upon the floor.
Iron Maiden can't be fought, Iron Maiden can't be sought.

The KINKS in the song "The Road", Ray doesn't really mention the band but he names the original 4 and what they did in the beginning.

"Started playing blues in a coffee bar
I took a trip down Charing Cross Road
With my imitation Gretsch guitar
And my head full of songs and my eyes full of stars
I saw a band called the Rolling Stones
I thought, "that's it, I'll get a band,
I'm leaving home, I'm out on the road."

The motorways all over this land
(The road)
Far away places like Wigan and Birmingham
(The road)
Didn't have no name, didn't have any fans
(The road)
Didn't have no money so we slept in the van

All those early gigs we ever played
Sometimes we were lucky if we even got paid
On the road
Pete played on the bass guitar
Liked to get around, mixing with all the stars
But Mrs. Avory's child was all fingers and thumbs
But solid as a rock, setting time on the drums
While Dave the Rave hit the rock 'n' roll riffs
Yours truly strummed away with a slightly limp wrist
On the road"
