most romantic song

What do you think is the most romantic song.

I think the funeral party by the cure is pretty romantic. However, the lyrics are absurdly unromantic.

There was on erica badu song my girlfriend was playing for me that was really romantic also.

"Hymn to the Postal Service" by Hefner on the Album "Breaking God's Heart" - my alltime favorit romantic song, it's all in the tone of voice and how it "messes up" the lyrics:

Quote:

She could not stand the state of British politics/And I just can't convince her that I'm socialist/And every night I pray for mail in the morning

When I want to listen to something romantic, I would listen to Billie Holiday or Nat King Cole. The technology in some of the newer stuff takes away from its meaning in a lot of cases.

shannon 05-09-2004 09:13 PM

i loved crush my dave matthews the first time i heard it. i'm sure i could come up with something better but when i heard crash up top i thought of crush.

Bob Biter 05-09-2004 09:42 PM

"Janine" - Soul Coughing (works particularly well if played to a girl named Janine)

However, for a more general love song:

"Closing Time" - Tom Waits

Days by The KINKS

A little bit of Johnny Mathis, Sinatra's Capitol years and Dean Martin playing in the background. I don't care how old you are those 3 playing and a little candlelight and wine and you have a romantic evening no woman can resist.

asudevil83 08-03-2004 05:22 PM

Dave Matthews - After Her. its pretty rare, not on any album. i found a studio recording just today. its got the same rythme as Satellite.

After Her Lyrics

sun will shine no matter what I do
sun shines bright now with you
what a wonderful thing for you to do
moon shine bright reflection in your eyes
a finer place he could not find

winter's cold spring erases
and the calm away by the storm is chasing
everything good needs replacing
hope all these changes happen with you

in my life never before have I lover so adored
her eyes her hair everything she says
my delight can tickle me inside
touch my heart touch my mind

no matter what's inside I'll give to her
no need to satisfy my hunger lost in her
and while I spend these hours
five senses reading
with biggest steps I'm running
after her I will run

winter's cold spring erases
and the calm away by the storm is chasen
everything good needs replacing
hope all these changes happen with you

sun will shine no matter what I do
sun shines bright now with you
touch my heart touch me through

no matter what's inside I'll give to her
no need to satisfy my hunger lost in her
and while I spend these hours
five senses reading
with biggest steps I'm running
after her I will run

after her
after her
after her

I totally agree. Right on.

As for me, I'd say either "walk with you" by Dispatch or "Crash" by DMB. But without a doubt, Ne me quitte pas by Jacques Brel is one of the most romantic songs I've ever heard.

"Who am I to you?" Norah Jones is good.

A Perfect Circle - Magdalena

Overcome by your
Moving temple
Overcome by this
Holiest of altars

So pure
So rare
To witness such an earthly goddess
That I've lost my self control
Beyond compelled to throw this dollar down before your
Holiest of altars

I'd sell
My soul
My self-esteem a dollar at a time

One chance
One kiss
One taste of you my magdalena

I bear witness
To this place, this prayer, so long forgotten
So pure
So rare
To witness such an earthly goddess

That I'd sell
My soul
My self-esteem a dollar at a time
For one chance
One kiss
One taste of you my black madonna

I'd sell
My soul
My self-esteem a dollar at a time

One taste
One taste
One taste of you my Magdalena

lyrics::

If this is a dream I'm happy you're having it with me
I will stay and savor the way you move me
Don't want to miss one detail, one sweet smile from your lips
One kiss sets me adrift

Chase the stars as they fall down and light up where you are
They are yours for the keeping
Trace the curves of the sheets
A riddle of desire when I watch you sleeping

Pressed against the sky, eyes wide open...

The Glory Of Love

Personally, I like the Doo Wop version sung by The Five Keys.

Billy Hill wrote it in 1936 and it was first recorded by Benny Goodman.

Mr. Big "Shine"

Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing
NIN - Where in this together

Miss Ina 05-10-2005 11:42 AM

Older jazz love songs are wonderfully romantic. I love jazz of course, but I still don't feel I have a bias making that claim—even if jazz isn't your or your somebody's "thing", just try learning the words to one and singing it to them ... and watch them melt. (I know it's worked on me, anyway.)

Janey 05-10-2005 01:02 PM

I know it's hokey but:

Total Eclipse of the Heart: Bonnie Tyler

I always thought that Something by the Beatles was very romantic, although I don't really like it as much as "Girl" and "I've Just seen a Face"

But this one is so moving, it has soul:

'Someday We'll be Together' by the Supremes.

Someday we’ll be together
Say, say, say it again
Someday we’ll be together
Oh, yeah, oh yeah

You’re far away
From me my love
And just as sure my, my baby
As there are stars above
I wanna say, I wanna say, I wanna say

Someday we’ll be together
Yes we will, yes we will
Say, someday (some sweet day) we’ll be together
I know, I know, I know, I know

My love is yours, baby
Oh, right from the stars
You, you, you posses my soul now honey
And I know, I know you own my heart
And I wanna say:

Someday we’ll be together
Some sweet day we’ll be together
Yes we will, yes we will
Someday (tell everybody) we’ll be together
Yes we will, yes we will

Long time ago
My, my sweet thing
I made a big mistake, honey
I said, I said goodbye
Oh, oh baby
Ever, ever, ever since that day
Now, now all I wanna do is cry, cry

Hey, hey, hey
I long for you every night
Just to kiss your sweet, sweet lips
Hold you ever, ever so tight
And I wanna say

Someday we’ll be together
Yes we will, yes we will

Majik_6 singing Adam Sandler's "I Wanna Grow Old With You", because it reminds me of what the next 60 years will look like for us.

"To Be With You," by Mr. Big
"Heaven," Bryan Adams
"Yellow," Coldplay
"Barely Breathing," Duncan Sheik

bigwolf 05-12-2005 08:25 AM

"Always with me, Always with you"

---- Joe Satrianai Surfing with the Alien

It is all guitar, but the melodies are very beautiful and can inspire a romantic situation.

meembo 05-12-2005 12:29 PM

Something by the Beatles

Frank Sinatra said it was the best love song he ever heard, and I agree

Smimpinj 06-17-2005 08:42 PM

Green Spandex by Xavier Rudd

The name may be odd but it is a beautiful song.

Grasshopper Green 06-18-2005 05:17 PM

Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers
Can't Help Falling In Love by Elvis
Always by Bon Jovi
When a Man Loves a Woman by Percy Sledge.
When You Say Nothing At All by Allison Krauss. I prefer her version to Keith Whitley's.

I guess I don't put much stock in most current love songs.

glytch 06-18-2005 05:54 PM

Merle Haggard, "I kissed my sweetie with my fist"

....seriously.

Edit: Okay it might've been annoying of me to make a joke suggestion rather than also listing a real song. Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism. I'm a HUGE fan of this song.

flstf 06-18-2005 06:41 PM

Nat King Cole - Unforgettable
Lighthouse Family - High
Sade - Your Love is King
5 Stairsteps - O-O-H Child

Derwood 06-18-2005 07:54 PM

Everlong - Foo Fighters ("Breathe out so I can breathe you in...")
Don't Fade Away - Dead Can Dance ("Don't bring me down now/Let me stay here for awhile/You know life's too short/Let me bathe here in your smile")
First Day of My Life - Bright Eyes ("Your's was the first face that I saw/Think I was blind before I met you...")
For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her - Simon & Garfunkel ("And when I awoke/And felt you warm and near/I kissed your honey hair/With my grateful tears")
Butterfly - Lenny Kravitz ("You shine just like sunlight rays on a winter snow/I just had to tell you so")
So Happy Together - The Turtles ("Imagine me and you, I do/I think about you day and night, it's only right...")

I'll think of more I'm sure and will add to the list.
