Robert Randolph

During the tribute to funk on the Grammy's, there were solid performances from Earth, Wind & Fire, Outkast and, of course, George Clinton and P-Funk.

The artist who caught my attention was Robert Randolph & The Family Band.

They were amazing and although I had never heard of them before, I want to get my hands on a cd.

Does anyone else know more about them??? Am I the only one who is late to this party??

Next to The White Stripes, that was another good performance, took up a big slot of time to put a stop to the horrible show otherwise.

I've seen Robert Randolph and the Family Band live twice and they are unbelievable. If you think that performance was good, see them live

Hell yes! Robert Randolph & The Family kick ass! Awesome live band! Though I'm making that statement based on the live tracks I've heard from Bonnaroo and never actually seeing them live myself. From what I can tell, they are a kind of R&B/Funk/Jam band.

A freind of mine has thier Live At Wetlands CD and it pretty good. You might want to check that out.

You just don't run into a funk, steel-guitar sound all that often!!!

What he said. Their live show is outstanding. You can get a bunch of bootlegs of previous shows at The downloads have been slow in the past, but my friend they are so worth it. That's a good place to start if you want to get an idea of what they sound like live.

On another note, I'll have to disagree with you when you say that George Clinton had a solid performance. He could barely sing! That guy has been on the crack pipe (quite literally) for a long time, and the toll it's taking is quite apparent.

I do totally agree with EWF and Outkast tearin it up though.
