Internet hatred of Linkin Park
All the message boards I visit always seem to have the same theme: hating Linkin Park. Well, to be fair, I haven't noticed it here, but everywhere else I visit! I understand people have different tastes in music, but what's with all the hate? If anyone can explain it to me, that'd be great. Thanks =D
|
Well I for one don't like them because I can't stand their music. All the songs sound the same, much like every other Nu Metal act. Basically, the blonde haired rapper says something then the black hair guy says something. Or vice versa. Either way, it sucks.
|
Theres this big thing about "Nu-Metal" or whatever the heck it is. I don't see it. They are a talented bunch of guys, and I am happy for them.
Let it be known that I have home-town favoritism for them. Two of the members, well the two FOUNDING members of linkin park are from my hometown. Hell, one of them is the same age as my sister. |
I like them, personally. I think that people just hate anybody that gets too "main-stream". You have to hate someone in order to keep the angst-ridden edge, right?
|
I like Linkin Park. But like zfOenix said, some people probably dislike them because they got to main-stream for them, or as BulletBob said. Maybe they are an aquired taste. At first I didn't like them because there was all the Limp Bizkit crap going around, and I just was totally against anything rappy sounding, but after finally listening to them, I liked them.

it's the fact that a lot of people won't accept anything mainstream. My brother denies it, but he refuses to listen to anything mainstream. Linkin Park is evolving in their own direction, but peole accuse them of being the ones following trends, when it's really the other way around.
|
I listen to plenty of mainstream music, Linkin Park just doesn't tickle my fancy. There are several bands such as Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down, Creed, or Staind that people either hate or love, no in between. Personally, i'd take 3 Doors Down over all those.
|
A lot of people take music very seriously, and instead of being open to all genre's they tend to be close minded and stick to one genre. So in general its personal preference but is determinded by how open minded the person is. I think they are repeative and would prefer to change the station or whatnot.

it's the guitar guy. that guy does not deserve to be in a band. quite simply, he sucks at his instrument. he plays the same boring, repetitive power chord shit that everyone else does. if only they ditched him, they'd be going places.
|
everyone whom I chat with online havn't changed their opinions on linkin park, so when hybrid came out, the people who loved that, love Meteora. And vice versa. and I think the remix album was a total bomb anyways so no one talks about it.
|
I don't hate Linkin Park, I just think their very boring :o
But that goes for most mainstream music, IMO. |
Bleh. I don't mind em there songs do sound quite the same..although i don't know what Nu Metal is i wouldn't clssify them there..I'd stick them in Alternative or Pop Rock

While I havent heard much of the new album, or the old one, I don't have a hatred for Linkin Park. I Like Mr. Hahn.. he seems pretty cool form what i've seen of him. I also somewhat like their cg'ed videos.. but the music has some harmony to it. That cant be all taht bad. Eventually all music sounds repetitive.. we all share a collected subconscious anyway..so If you've heard one band, you've literally heard them all.. (at some point in your life)
|
I really like LP. Im not a metal or hip hop fan, but they have somehting that draws me to them. I loved Hybrid Theory, hated the remixes, and mixed about their new CD. They are starting to sound the same, but usually its pretty good. Hahn is definitely the best out of the whole group. Dont hate on LP.
|
I dig the band a lot.. I don't really listen to the words, I think they are a bit corny, and I think all their songs basically sound the same, but something in their music makes me want to play their CD's over and over again.

I used to like them but I don't hate them at the moment.
The overplaying of "In the End" *sigh*. I used to like that song pretty much. |
I never liked them... I just hated how they were always listed, for some reason, as one of the great "rock" bands of our time, even though they're just as much RAP as they are ROCK. Personally, I think that as for the whole rock-band-with-a-DJ thing, there are FAR better bands than Linkin Park... the one the REALLY stands out to me is Lostprophets... not only is their music more rock than Linkin Park, their DJ is more inventive with what he does.

there the nysnc for teenage boys.

i felt limp bizkit's first album was good, but then they decided to do rap like and starting sucking
|
I believe im open to all music and I can see a couple of OK things about LP (the occasional good pop-hook).
But my biggest gripe is just total unoriginality. All of these numetal bands seem to copy each other from the number of singers and their roles to the gear and guitars the members use. THEY ARE ALMOST ALWAYS THE SAME -A singer who raps and one who sings -Guitarists who used to use 7 string Ibanez guitars who now use PRS' -Using Mesa Dual Rectifier amps -Having a DJ with poor skills -Singing about teen angst How can I take the music seriously, and how can a fan be satisfied (well, beyond fleeting enjoyment) if its been done soooooooooooooooooooo many times, and their follow up album Meteora is almost exactly the same. To me Linkin Park isnt a band, they are a buisness. |

i don't think the hatred of LP is limited to the internet ;)

its cause they suck, dude. |
lp is loved by teenagers. i wouldn't say it's because teens have bad tastes in music, it's just that lots of people identify with the lyrics. the musical themes are repetitive but it's a formula that works for them.

the only LP songs I have ever listened to are the ones on their new album Meteora. I downloaded every one of them and burned them to disc as b-day present for one of my nephews (age 16). I was thoroughly unimpressed with them.
the rap/rock fusion they are calling Nu-metal is the hair metal of the current generation. If history is any indication, this trend wont last longer than another 2-3 years, max. Neither will 99% of these bands. |
Certainly not my thing, too overproduced, they put his vocals though about 29405239 filters, i've heard all three albums and they all sound the same, just generic i think....
|
I dont like them for the simple fact that they are played out. Everywhere i go i hear one of their songs and after a week it all sounds the same.
That and the guy who tries to rap in their songs. In my opinion it doesn't fit, maybe if they got rid of him i'd listen to their stuff. Until then i'll look elsewhere for some good tunes. |
they are good at what they do, but what they do requires very little musical ability, and many people resent this.
|
i like them, but every song they come out with, tends to get played out really fast..
|
Big fan, simply because they were playing when memorable things in my life happened. Music in general takes little "skill" to me, beyond knowing what people will like -- I'm the opposite of the mainstream haters. If you can't get a large crowd of people who like you, then you probably suck. To me, garnering huge support means that you've got a universal appeal, not that you're a sell out.
|
I am a casual listener. I don't own a CD but have a couple of their songs on my MP3 player and listen to them on the radio. I am not above buying their CD though, I might one day. As far as people not liking certain bands that get to mainstream, I agree. I saw it a lot in college. People who don't like mainstream also don't like anything older than say a year old too.
|
i dont care for the lyrics. any "teen angst" style music just really grinds on my nerves. if they ditched the my life sucks/ im so angry pay attention to me lyrics i would probably listen to them.
this goes for NIN as well, i used to be a pretty big fan of them, but i just cant stand the constant onslaught of boohoo bullshit. |
I don't justify my tastes. You're welcome to do your own thing. I know that there is no Linkin Park on my playlist for a reason; I just don't like them.
I do know that them beign called metal is pissing off a lot of old metalheads. Linkin Park is not metal. Linkin Park is emo with a bit of hip hop thrown in. There are no metal elements to their sound. |
Blah blah blah LP sucks, they're this they're that, honestly people should only have the right to hate on people who arent doing shit right. These guys must be doing SOMETHING fucking right, because they're more popular / successful then 90% of all other bands out there.... Everybody is gonna hate people who are winning. Dont hate the players, hate the game.
|
For me it's because they write music exploiting teenage angst. Either they need to take the large sums of money they've earned and get a good therapist or they need to quit setting bad high school poetry to music.

Personally, I liked Linkin Park at one point, then I started getting into different music and as a whole I don't generally enjoy what's on the radio. 80's music and before that I can get into, and some of the indie music is pretty good stuff, but what's on the alternative stations make me want to claw my eyes out for the most part. I always felt that people who said stuff like what I just said were jackasses, but once you find music that's really impressive it's hard to go back to what's on the radio. |
Their winning formula comes with the perk of being able to allow your creative energies to remain dormant as the exorbitant checks come in but I wonder how much money it takes to not only make the same album over and over again but to preform it live to crowds who throught the years remain the same exact age.
I could say so much more but instad I'll just pull a Chester: Their winning formula comes with the perk............ |
I know i would have loved the shit out of linkin park up until i was about 19, 20. Then i got all angsted out. If the could just stop with the words, you know, if they were singing about something other than how nobody listens or how nobody understands them, like shopping for groceries. Fuck, i like the way they sound, it's just that the shit they sing about is so trite.
|
people dont like linkin park because they're derivative, formulaic, and bland.
|
if people stopped listening to musicians that wrote about being depressed, nobody listening to them, nobody loving them, etc., then people would stop buying records by Springsteen, Dylan, Taylor, shit just about everyone who ever wrote a song

I hate them because they're the favorite band of every person out there with wholly unoriginal tastes in music.
|
I liked their mp3.com stuff, then I liked their first album, but as a band I don't think they have grown beyond the same material they used to play. I imagine people don't like LP so much anymore for the same reason their remix album failed; their new music is just a rehash of the old so there is nothing new to hear. With that said, I still have some of their songs on rotation in my regular playlist. My favorite is still one of their pre-fame songs: My December.

Never did like them, and I never will. That genre of music isn't my thing, I'm a hip hop/reggae/hendrix fan.
|
At this point, the band has put out like 24 original songs in 5+ years. Maybe people would be less critical if they didn't put out a CD and then release every song as a single so as to not have to write new music
|
*Bear in mind, this is just my opinion, don't take it as an attack on anyone's taste in music*
I openly hold scorn for bands like Linkin Park. I feel that they feast on the wallets of dispariaged teenagers with cliche, repetitive wailing about how hard life is because some girl broke up with them, or any number of other juvenile contrivances. Linkin Park cannot turn pain into art. I don't see any pro-active elements to these guy's lyrics or music, just endless screams about how life is all ultimate suffering about nothing. Furthermore, popularity has nothing to do with how talented or brilliant a band is. Modern pop music is pop music because it is simple, appeals to the vague similarities in large groups of people and doesn't attempt to be artistic. Music is supposed to be an art, not a business. Are you upset? Depressed? Listen to Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks. |
some people need their angry music loud instead of folksy
