Music Of The 80s: Lyric Quiz

Oh man, I usually don't post or forward things like these but this was just too damn good not to share...

Take the quiz (you'll probably sing half the songs out loud to get the answers) and post your score.

80s Lyrics Quiz

My score was 121.

Darkeryet 11-04-2003 12:48 PM

lol score 36.....and I grew up with this crap.

Holo 11-04-2003 12:48 PM

dammit! 99 points. so many were right there but I couldn't think of that particular line.

torgone 11-04-2003 12:59 PM

Bleh

78.2

Well, I wasn't really paying attention to music in the 80's.
I did recognize almost everything once the answers came up though.

Redlemon 11-04-2003 01:04 PM

102 for me. http://www.yetanotherdot.com/asp/80s5.jpg

Should have been higher, but I got tripped up on a few verb tense issues.

The answers page is a good read, lots of commentary (I disagree with their opinions in several parts, but that's the fun of it!). One example: "Everybody misses this. Look up the lyrics to {removed} on the cheatsheet."

I think the author was a late-80s person, s/he seems to think that the early 80s songs should be more difficult.

anti fishstick 11-04-2003 01:44 PM

well dammit i spelt 'billy' and 'jesse' wrong. so it gypped me like 2 points.

i only got 56.5
must've slept thru the 80's...

mb99usa 11-04-2003 02:27 PM

40.7. but I was only 3 when the 80's started.

Troublebot 11-04-2003 02:31 PM

I got 105 and should have got more, if they weren't counting for capitalization.

God of Thunder 11-04-2003 04:22 PM

69.5

I feel so ashamed. I was smacking my head afeter I read some of the answers. I knew the songs, I just couldn't think of the answers at the time.

I resisted the urge not to cheat. I have most of those songs on my hard drive. It would have been very easy to just pull up "80's list.m3u"

onetime2 11-05-2003 06:35 AM

57 for me. Just couldn't get the beat going in my head for them.

They weren't counting for capitalization, but they do count for spelling, verb tense, and singular/plural nouns.

Derwood 11-05-2003 07:56 AM

67.5, but i was in a hurry

SecretMethod70 11-05-2003 09:45 AM

69.5 - I should have known more. Definitely will help me search out 80's songs I've missed downloading though :) :p

ShaniFaye 11-05-2003 10:40 AM

Exodus 11-05-2003 06:09 PM

I was born in '81.... scored 33.

bach 11-05-2003 06:59 PM

81.5 :)

Derwood 11-05-2003 07:49 PM

i got the schoolhouse rock one. I was born in '75, and i'm sure i would've scored higher had i not been late for work

I got the "Hotel California" one, the "School House Rock" one, but not the "Elvira" one. Oh, I got 90 and I was born in 1978.

59.5

I should have done better than that.

crow_daw 11-09-2003 11:44 AM

I was born like halfway through the 80's and I got a 45.5.

shred_head 11-10-2003 10:37 PM

I got a 66. I was born in '82 and didn't really listen to pop music till the 90's. And a lot of those songs I never hear on 80s music stations, they usually just loop the most popular ones. But needless to say I was saddened by my performance.

Gortexfogg 11-11-2003 08:09 AM

23.7...I was born in the 80s but I thought I knew the songs a little better than that. Oh well, I'll probably do well on a 90s one...

I got a 24
I was born in 1979 and I like '80s music. This is pathetic.

gremlinx8 11-11-2003 01:34 PM

I got a 47, but I was born in 1985.

122.5 - Did most of my partying in the 80's

Jadey 11-15-2003 11:14 AM

108.5. I really only remember part of the 80's, but I love that music.

jvwgtr 11-18-2003 07:06 AM

I got a disappointing 95.5. Some of them I smacked my forehead afterwards, and should have gotten. Argh.

Snakebyt 11-18-2003 02:36 PM

holy shit.. i only got 43.5 and i grew up in the 80's.. but i did feel dumb after i saw the answers.. i knew most of them

high_way 11-19-2003 03:35 AM

i got the worst

16

my only excuse is that i was born in 83 and my parents didnt listen to musis, which sucked hard cause i missed out on all the great bands... ahh well shit happens

holtmate 11-20-2003 07:45 PM

I only got a 93.5...I am disappointed in myself for that performance.

taliendo 11-21-2003 11:00 PM

47!!!

and I was born in 81 -- i missed a few that i really really should have gotten.

Stargazer01 11-22-2003 04:04 AM

44 Born in 1985, I can't spell =\

Tophat665 11-22-2003 07:09 AM

128. With two exceptions, if I didn't get it, I had never heard it. (Elvira and a U2 question I am still smarting about.)

itchy93 11-22-2003 03:05 PM

I got a 52.3. I was born in '85, but my brother was 11 years older than me, so I knew most of the hair metal stuff.

Fearless_Hyena 11-23-2003 03:50 PM

66!!! what the heck!!! it seemed like i got almost all of em.....

tough one for the schoolhouse rock one!! i woulda gotten that with a better hint....

Brian Fellows 12-01-2003 01:26 AM

Ouch, i was born in 1980 and i only got 31.5

sartan 12-26-2003 07:50 AM

I got a 41 and was born in 81.

Martian 06-28-2005 09:43 PM

How well do YOU know 80's music?

http://www.yetanotherdot.com/asp/80s.html

I scored 151, my girlfriend scored 145. See if you can do better.

dlish 06-28-2005 11:21 PM

i wont tell you what i got its too embarrassing. under 100 by a long shot

Redlemon 06-29-2005 05:32 AM

Ah, a great quiz. I played that one over a year ago, I got a pretty high score, but I don't remember what it was. It would be cheating to play again, though.

...um, why is this in the Trampoline? Should you ask a Mod to move it to Music?

Charlatan 06-29-2005 07:13 AM

I did too well on this... glad to say I missed most of the stuff by Whitesnake and such...

Final Score: 134.5
http://www.tigergirl.com/yetanother/80s5.jpg

Martian 06-29-2005 07:35 AM

Redlemon - Seemed like as good a place for it as any. If a mod wants to move it, that's fine by me.

I don't spend a lot of time in the music forum, so I just didn't think of it.

Redlemon 06-29-2005 07:58 AM

OK, I got a 118, and after I went back and corrected two answers for correct verb tenses or pluralization, 121. I missed the R&B and rap elements.

Ah, just remembered that the last time I took this quiz... was right here. Tilted Forum Project - Music Of The 80s: Lyric Quiz. I only got a 102 back in November 2003, so I clearly gained some points due to memorization of the answers.

Charlatan 06-29-2005 08:19 AM

Why would anyone born in the 80s score high on this? You were like, 5 or younger when most of these songs were playing...

to be a true master you must have been in high school during the 80s when all you did was worship videos and dance to these songs at the school dance...

I graduated from Grade 13 in 1987... I scored way too high on this test.

Derwood 06-29-2005 08:50 AM

I took it again and increased my score to 78.5 . I grew up with this stuff, but some of those are tough when a random line is out of context of the song...

God of Thunder 06-29-2005 08:53 AM

Final Score: 119.5

I smacked my palm to me forehead when it reavealed some of the things I missed.

I couldn't get some of the songs in my head to finish the lyrics.

edit: looking in the above link, I improved quite well since the last time.

snowy 06-29-2005 08:53 AM

That quiz is waaaaay too long for me--I'm too ADD to stick with a song lyrics quiz for that long. I managed to get through about 50 and got 45 of them right. Perhaps someday I'll stick through the whole thing but somehow I doubt it.

SaltPork 06-29-2005 09:10 AM

damn...I only got 109. I would have done better, but my spelling killed me.

guthmund 06-29-2005 09:21 AM

That was fun.

I scored a 131, although the last five points are kind of cheap.

I was born in '79, so, by all means I shouldn't have done that well on it. Good thing my Dad had horrible taste in music. :)

"You belong to the city. You belong to the night." /warble

ShaniFaye 06-29-2005 09:31 AM

I got 150.5 last time I took it, I wouldnt imagine it would change much

sillygirl 06-29-2005 09:59 AM

I got a 17.5 Although.. some of the songs I kinda remembered but got stuck, and I was born in the middle of the eighties... I also didn't pick an age range, so that lost me some points, but I don't think i was born before any of that stuff.. I dunno...

Suave 06-29-2005 12:06 PM

I got 50.1. A couple I just mixed a word a little bit on (similar words), and some of the songs that I actually liked I missed because of the obscurishness of the lyrics. Either way, I was born halfway into the '80s so I think I did pretty well.

For my score, I can blame radio stations and MuchMusic retro, as well as some of my dad's CD collection (a la U2). Can't believe I missed INXS though. :(

dlish 06-29-2005 03:11 PM

so i wasnt the only one.. i got 40..which i though was embarrasing..thankfully theres other out there like me. :)

TM875 06-29-2005 04:51 PM

60 points.

I got the Hotel California one, and was born in the early-mid-80s

cj2112 06-29-2005 07:15 PM

I scored 138...i was a teenager during the 80's

http://www.tigergirl.com/yetanother/80s5.jpg

Dbass 06-29-2005 08:21 PM

57.5, Born in 86. Thanks to local rock stations, where every third song is hair metal (baaaaaad hair metal) and my girlfriend who likes moody 80's songs.

That's what I thought - and I went down a point or two when I took it again!

spindles 06-30-2005 10:08 PM

110.5 - seemed I got a few tough ones like the clash song, but missed ones I have in my CD collection, like whitesnake.

Actually, I have a *lot* of these songs in my CD collection...

Martian 07-02-2005 09:34 PM

Frighteningly enough, I have nearly all of those songs in my cd collection, barring Madonna and Bananorama.

I'm still a bit surprised that The Eagles was worth 10 points, that was the easiest one on there by far.

Umm, so easy. Yep, so easy, I didn't get that one :)

Easy on this kind of quiz is all relative. The clash song was easy, the toto song was easy, beyond thunderdome was easy - they weren't worth as much as the eagles song.

BTW - I grew up without MTV so I have some kind of excuse...
