Fav Johnny Cash Song
Hes had a bunch and I was interested in what people liked and why.
My step-father was a Johnny Cash impersonator so I heard them all. My fav has to be "Sunday Morning Coming Down" The whole idea of being alone at a time when most folks are with their families really stcuk with me. |
first on the list would have to be 'ring of fire' - the song that got me hooked on johnny cash
a close second is 'hurt', although he didn't write it, it's one of the saddest songs i've got, especially since his death... rip johnny :( |
San Quentin performed live at San Quentin Prison. Great great song.
|
Folsom Prison Blues, I Wont Back Down, Hurt, and of course Ring of Fire. Johnny Cash is so great. I could add so very many songs to this list.
|
Man in Black or Hurt. I don't think I could decide.
|
Many:
"When the Man Comes Around" "Give My Love to Rose" "Folsum Prison Blues" "Highway Patrolman" (Cover) |
"I walk the line" followed closely by "A boy named Sue"
|
My dad listened to Johnny all the time, so I think I've heard them all...twice.
I like the standards, but I remember a certain song about the flag, "That Ragged Old Flag" or something like that. Dad used to play that album all the time, and I just remember that song. |
Ring of Fire and Hurt

What is Truth
Won't Back Down Man In Black Ring of Fire One Piece at a Time Hurt |
In no particular order:
Hurt Folusm Prison Blues I Walk The Line Ring Of Fire Boy Named Sue |
Ring of Fire

Sunday Morning coming down, and I like I walk the line both express a sentiment that hasn't often been expressed in song but that we can all recognize easily. I have to admit it though, One Piece at a time just annoys me and I always skip over that one. A fringe benefit to Cash singing recent covers is that you can actually hear the lyrics clearly, and I enjoy some of his recent stuff, like the Wandarer on U2's Zooropa, (I know I mentioned it on the other Johnny Cash thread, but I'm hoping someone will try to listen to it if they see it mentioned twice. Maybe it's with the benefit of digital enhancement, but I like to think that he could really sing down that low before his voice started to age.) but for all time best, I'll go with Sunday Morning or I Walk the Line.

im with perripken and exodus, boy named sue is awesome
|
Boy Named Sue ... and his version of U2's "One" is amazing....
|
Ring of Fire
Boy Named Sue |
MY NAME IS SUE!
HOW DO YOU DO? NOW YOU GONNA DIE! Great song. The best lyric goes to Folsom Prison Blues, however. How can you beat I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die? |
The Mercy Seat
Someone on this board turned me on to it, can't remember who though. |
I love ol Johnny, RIP.
He had many, but I just loved Hurt so damn much, NIN be damned, Johnny Cash made that his song. Sorry, but its true. |
BulletBob mentioned the Mercy Seat - this was one of his greatest covers. Never thought anyone could best Mr Cave... but leave it to Johnny to return the favor from Long Black Veil
