What happened to Kazaa?

Does anybody know what happened to Kazaa on-line file sharing service. I used to log on and find several hundred thousand users sharing several million files. Now I log on and there are about 50 people on-line sharing a few hundred files? What's up with that? I haven't heard anything in the news or through the grape vine, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks:D

I'm on Kazaa right now and it says there's almost 4 million people online and they're sharing 842 million files. So I don't know what you're talking about, seems to be working to me.

Wow, I just logged back on and found the same thing. Almost 4 mil. people! Thanks for getting me to try again. Please cancel this thread, I'm an idiot!

I heard a rumor that there is soon to be some radical changes to Kazaa.

Paying for downloads?
Subscription Fees?
IP blocking if you are trading copyrighted material without authorisation?

And some of the record companys are looking into ways of suing people who are trading excessive amounts of material via P2P.

Not too sure how much of this is true, just wish all these money hogs would get off our backs!!!

man i really really hope that nothing happens to it, that would really really really suck

No, they are suing but the worst part is that they are attacking people who have only like 10 files in their share, it doesnt matter to them, they are jsut trying to make examples of people. If I were you I would sway away from kazaa for a while.

Check http://www.zeropaid.com to see all the recent happenings.

djtestudo: What does using Kazaa Lite buy you in this case?

The first/last time I installed it I remember the big difference was having the spyware removed.

It still uses the same login and trading system as Kazaa and you're sharing with Kazaa users. If they make changes to the Kazaa system, Kazaa Lite users will be affected.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't think using Kazaa Lite will make a difference.

eDonkey, winMX, Gnutella, Limewire, there all p2p and I don't think it will matter which one your using.

I just heard that Kazaa was going to be one of the first in the spotlight, so it will be introducing changes in the near future.

Main difference with kazaa and kazaa lite is the spy ware has been removed in kazaa lite, you also get a host file to install on your machine which stops a lot of the pop ups by blocking the address to them, you have various tools to help you speed up the download process.

If the changes that waxeater suggested happen, which I doubt, then there will be another p2p program. For now, Kazaa lite rocks =D
