"warning" Country, John Prine

I said "warning" because it seems as if the majority of the people here do not like country.....lol
when it says "an error occured" if you double click it , it will go to the video.

I'm guessing ,John Prine is best known for the song "Sam Stone". But he wrote some others, real worthy of being listened to , in my opinion.
Besides, "Hello In There", which Bette Midler had a big hit with, he wrote a song for a movie him and Billy Bob Thornton was making, called "In Spite of Ourselves" (not the movie, the song) which is entertaining. I especially liked when John Prine said, "and Billy Bob said, hmmm"
I'm going to include a few of my favorites by John Prine, in hopes you may enjoy them also.

In Spite of Ourselves (written for a movie with him and Billy Bob)

The Accident (he is as good as Bob Dylan at making a word fit, even if it doesn't belong there) (or raped by a minorty)

Your Flag Decal (their already over crowded from your dirty little war)

most of the videos I found were of live performances, and not very good quality, so, I improvised, and added ones that were better.

Please Don't bury me (give my stomach to Milwaukee, if they run out of beer)

One of my all time favorites by him is "The Great Compromise", but I couldn't find a video on it anywhere.
So many more, he is a champion storyteller.

I found another one that is a real favorite of mine, although it is not John Prine singing it, and that is a shame, but? I'm going to include the lyrics. It's titled "Crazy as a Loon"

Back before I was a movie star
Straight off of the farm
I had a picture of another man's wife
Tattooed on my arm
With a pack of Camel cigarettes
In the sleeve of my tee shirt
I'm headin' out to Hollywood
Just to have my feelings hurt

That town will make you crazy
Just give it a little time
You'll be walking 'round in circles
Down at Hollywood and Vine
You'll be waitin' on a phone call
At the wrong end of a broom
Yes, that town'll make you crazy
Crazy as a loon

So, I headed down to Nashville
To become a country star
Every night you'd find me hangin'
At every honky-tonk and bar
Pretty soon I met a woman
Pretty soon she done me wrong
Pretty soon my life got sadder
Than any country song

That town will make you crazy
Just give it a little time
You'll be walking 'round in circles
Lookin' for that country rhyme
You'll be waitin' on a phone call
At the wrong end of a broom
Yea, that town'll make you crazy
Crazy as a loon

So, I gathered up my savvy
Bought myself a business suit
I headed up to New York City
Where a man can make some loot
I got hired Monday morning
Downsized that afternoon
Overcome with grief that evening
Now I'm crazy as a loon

So I'm up here in the north woods
Just staring at a lake
Wondering just exactly how much
They think a man can take
I eat fish to pass the time away
'Neath this blue Canadian moon
This old world has made me crazy
Crazy as a loon
Lord, this world will make you crazy
Crazy as a loon

Hey, I love John Prine. And Johnny Cash, and what I like to call 'real' country music. Thanks for sharing!

I don't do country really but this is probably my favorite song of all time.

I couldn't find the duet of John and Bonnie together :/.

Very nice subject for a thread.

I just saw him perform in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and really one of the finest shows i've seen in quite some time. Kinda funny when he sang 'In Spite of Ourselves' without a female singer, but he always told us each time she she woulda been singing. He sang for over two hours and pretty much covered every phase of his career.

We had to drive 4 1/2 hours to see him, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

yep - John Prine is golden. I've never seen him live, but would love to.

This song didn't get played much on the airwaves, I guess because of the violence in it.....but, I like it none the less

She Wore Red Dresses, or Buenos noches From a Lonely Room
by Dwight Yoakam

Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam
