Favorite Music Videos?

Usually I like to listen to my music, but sometimes I'll watch a video for a song I don't really care for because the video is so damn good, so, what are your favorite videos, regardless of whether you like the song or not?

My picks are

Foo Fighters - Learn to Fly (The Fighters manage to land a plane after the pilots accidentally drink drugged coffee and can't fly the plane)

Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice (I knew Christopher Walken could dance, but I didn't know he could fly)

Pearl Jam - Do The Evolution (I like Todd McFarlane's style, come to think of it....)

Korn - Freak on a Leash (The McFarlane bits, and that bullet thing it had going on was pretty cool)

alec 07-02-2003 10:04 PM

Pearl Jam Jeremy is also very good.

Bjork - Human Behavior

Aphex Twin - Window Licker

Beck - Loser

NIN - Closer

The Atomic Boy 07-02-2003 10:05 PM

Hmm does The Wall count? It's kind of like a music video for the full album. If not then, I agree with Weapon of choice I find that video oddly hypnotic and now after thinking about it will probably have to download it again. I'm also fond of the video for Parabola. Though I don't watch many music videos since I have limited access to MTV2 and other stations that actualy play videos.

lafemmefatale 07-02-2003 10:28 PM

Kiss - 'Because I'm a girl'
[korean song but you dont need to know korean to enjoy the mv]
beautiful mv, it's not an eye candy type thing at all in fact you never even see the singers, it's just a mini movie with a TRAGIC TRAGIC PLOT...which made me weep, so much. If they made the mv into a movie it'd be a hit because of how GOOD the plot is...nothing is comparable to this mv...NOTHING...

other enjoyable mvs:
Madonna - 'Human Nature'
Geri Halliwel - 'It's raining men'
[i have a thing for dance mv's]

NIN - 'closer'
Garbage - 'Cherry Lips'

and just for the hell of it
Tatu - 'all the things she said' for the delicious pseudo lesbianism

Nyenrodian 07-02-2003 11:28 PM

Fatboy Slim - Weapon of Choice

I also enjoy some Van Halen videos that still feature David Lee Roth. There's just something about 'em that's funny.

Pearl Jam - Do The Evolution is the greatest video ever. There's really no comparison. Other good ones...

Audioslave - Show Me How To Live
Foo Fighters - Big Me (Pat Smear is great in this)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

And this isn't really a music video but the video of Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins playing Stairway To Heaven on Kilborn is awesome. Dave forgets how the song goes and it's halarious.

Donkeypuncher 07-11-2003 08:40 AM

OK, so one of the elevators in the building where I work has been out of service for some time and it was finally up and running as of yesterday. The repair company left coffee and donuts in the lobby to say "sorry" I guess. A coworker mentioned that if the quality of the donuts was any indication of the quality of their repairs, that elevator was going to be nothing but a nonstop fiery ride into hell...

Which brings me to my point.

I immediately had to go find Dio's "Last in Line" video. That got me to thinking about the delicious cheesiness of Leppard's "Rock of Ages" video and I was spinning off on bad, but-you-love-to-watch-them-now, early videos.

Fun stuff. Dio's "Mystery" was awful in the best kind of way, too. Remember Quiet Riot's "Metal Health"?

Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" was actually a good one from the early days. A real classic, but cheesy by today's standards. "WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE???"

This topic will always remind me of Beavis and Butthead watching Judas Priest's "Breakin' the Law" video and Butthead commenting, "you know...I still like Judas Priest and all, but.......... this sucks!"

That _was_ pretty funny, but it was pretty obvious he didn't forget a single word, he was messing it up on purpose. You should have seen the shit-storm from angry Zep fans on the Foo message boards for the week or two afterwards - that's where the real funny of that event was.

If you can find it *cough*on Kazaa*cough*...check out Dave doing "Tiny Dancer" also on Kilborn's show. It was after the summer when Almost Famous came out and funny as hell.

a-ha - Girls on Film, for very many obvious reasons!

fugue_life 07-13-2003 05:30 PM

I would have to go with weapon of choice by fatboy slim and an obscure video for daft punk called around the world. My penis would like me to mention anything with shakira in it :)

darksparkles 07-16-2003 01:50 AM

pearl jam - jeremy and metallica - one because they're two of the most intense videos i've seen.
guns n roses- november rain because not only is it an awesome video in all other respects, but i love music videos with plotlines.
michael jackson - thriller ... wonderful cheesy horror film plot and you can't beat the zombie dance. plus its made like a fucking feature film and you gotta give him extra points for that much effort.
michael jackson - beat it, because the choreography's pretty awesome in that, too.
metallica - until it sleeps
beastie boys - fight for your right to party, because its just a whole lot of fun.
van halen - hot for teacher because its a classic all around.
and i have to say date rape by sublime because the charisma from brad nowell is awesome, its put together extremely well, its funny as hell and i love the colors.

i know i'm forgetting lots and lots of things.

and fugue_life, i've only seen that video once out of the corner of my eye but i love that song...

Ace_O_Spades 07-16-2004 08:57 PM

Metallica - One

A soldier in WWI has his arms and legs blown off, loses his vision, and his ability to hear or speak

basically he's a vegetable

It shows his struggle to try to understand whats going on and then pleads for people to kill him

it's powerful shit, watch it

The5thCandidate 07-17-2004 10:29 AM

I know they've been said a bunch of times already, but Weapon of Choice by Fatboy Slim is spectacular, as is The Reasons by The Weakerthans, for similar reasons. However, when it comes to music videos, The Beastie Boys take the proverbial cake. Not only is Sabotage the undisputed master of all music videos, but there's also Intergalactic, Body Moving, and a variety of others, including their latest hit, Ch-Check it Out. They are, beyond any shadow of a doubt, the ultimate music video force on the planet.

Word to that!

Faith No More - Midlife Crisis: Twisted video that perfectly portrays the darker tones of the Angel Dust album. A HUGE change from what they (or any other band) normally did at that point. That point, to me, was THE best progression or change that a band went through that I've ever seen... I think it might've even topped NIN going from Pretty Hate Machine > Broken > The Downward Spiral. Totally blew me away. Even to this day, that song, that album.. wow.

Quote Unquote - Mr. Bungle

All NIN/Tool (especially Pinion/Happiness in Slavery.. totally fucked up vids)

Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams (especially the part where the band is standing in that blurry shot and the candles look like devil horns coming out of his head as his face is morphing into this distorted smile - very awesome effect)

Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box/Come as You Are/In Bloom (hard to decide, they're all kick ass)

Foo Fighter videos are well done :D

kiwiman 08-13-2004 04:33 PM

Queen - I want to Break Free
