What Car/truck for $5000?

okay folks, it's challenge time!

We can all pick out crazy, ultimate, favorite cars, but here's a real world test: if you had five grand and not a penny more (for the vehicle itself), what would YOU go for and why?

it could be a car, or a truck, or a golf buggy, as long as there's a rationale.

And obviously it has to work, be street legal, be reliable every day transport etc.

Post your answers!

I would definately get an older Volkswagen Passat or Jetta. Around a 96 or 97.

Most of the cars I use to buy cheap have gotten quite expensive.
I just stopped to look at a 1970 Triumph GT6. My sister use to have one, she paid around $800 bucks for it. The cost of the car today is $8000. Same way with the 66 Mustang I bought for $650.00 now it is $10,000.
Oh well. I hope I am worth a lot more now.

As long as I get to keep the car I have, it'd be a '79 Trans Am. I'm in love with those and would love to make a project car out of one.. probably wouldn't be in great shape, but as I'd be tearing it down and doing a rebuild it wouldn't necessarily have to be.

If I had $5000 Id go for a project car from autotrader
probably between the 50s-70s
Just cause Ive always wanted an old car, it would be nice to have a 60s Muscle Car
