Thinking about buying a 2003 VW GTI 1.8T, opinions? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

So basically I'm looking at getting a GTI 1.8T towards the end of the summer. I know that most of the models before 2003 have some major problems, but 2003 and above, the cars tend to be straightened out. I want to get a chip set and possibly an exhaust afterwards, but if anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated.

2003 is too recent for long term reliability numbers, so we can't really know if they've straightened them out or not.

That said, the car is faster than stink for what it is, so if you're willing to take the reliability risk, it's a pretty sweet car.

Gti's are nice cars. It sounds like you're going to mod it though. For the price, I would go for a Srt-4. That's what i got and right now its stock and i gotta tell you, its a really quick car. While not as fast as sti/evo, definitly outmatches wrx/gti in speed if thats what your looking for imo.
