i'll try that tomorow when there's daylight |
I replaced mine in my camaro twice (its a 95) Its very easy to do...I did it myself (after of course I checked the fuse)
|
theres a lil connection to it behind the console panel, sometimes the connection pops out, just plug it back in

When I had my ashtray in my cadillac I used to pop fuse relatively easy since I used the ashtray to hold change. Every once in awhile a coin would fall down in the ashtray and short it out causing the fuse to blow, also check how clean it it, if someone uses the lighter to lig up cigs it can get very dirty and uncoductive really fast.
|
if the fuse is not blown the ciggeret lighter probably is. GM has two they provide, one to be used as a lighter and one capable of supporitn more amperage as a auxilary outlet. the physical size and shape is the same externally. if your is melted (which happens a lot to the ciggerret lighters when a power adapter is plugged into them) go get the aux power outlet one form gm to replace it with.

I've got the same problem in my 2001 Malibu... damn broken cig lighter won't let me get any power for my cell phone charger/ipod charger/LED strobes :(
|
again same thing applies to you
replace the fuse, then repalce the lighter with the aux power outlet |
Any suggestions for a 99 acura integra? I replaced the fuse no luck. I tried plugging in the adapter....no luck. I did use that thing a lot when I was a full time smoker...so maybe a cleaning is needed? If so...can I just wipe it down with a paper towel or do you recommend any sort of cleaning solution?

OK for both of you, cigarette lighters get dirty and it ruins it, the lighters themselves are not SUPPOSED to be touched with the cigarette but held really close it will light the cigarette just fine, but as soon as it starts getting tobacco and ashes and all that dirt and crud in there, the next time you use it it gets really hot and burns and eventually ruins the whole socket, you can buy new sockets for relitivly cheap and they are very easy to install. But i would definatly check your fuses before doing this, seems a shame to do all the work and not have it work, also, as your taking it apart make sure you note where the wires come from and see if they are all connected, it may be a loose wire.
|
Thanks...I did switch fuses...but no luck so it probably is the whole socket that is ruined. Do you think the people at thelocal auto store will be able to tell me how to do it quickly since my Chilton's Manual says nothing about replacing it? I know its sort of a "how should I know if they can tell you or not" question but just thought I would throw it out there anyways.
Thanks for the advice, and thanks in advance. |
Well, they might accidently know, but I would recommend going to a wrecking yard and finding one in a wrecked car that looks similar to your's.
You might go to the chevrolet dealership near you (if you have one) and talk to them about it. Hope this helps. |

I have a '99 Malibu - both lighters are dead for no apparent reason. I don't smoke, so I don't use the main cigarette lighter, I just use the auxillary for charging my cell phone. Suddenly two days ago, I've got no juice - from either outlet. None of the fuses are linked to the cigarette lighter per the Malibu's Owner's manual, and above that I've looked at each individual fuse - all are fine.
Any idea what happened? Thanks! -Mid |
