anyone made a homemade remote starter?
Winter is coming now and I hate the cold. I have a 99 camery (standard) and was wondering what would be invovled in a home carage project of making my own remote starter. Anyone ever done anything like this?

you would need a transmitter and some decent electronics knowledge. im sure all it would need to do is jump the starter wires momentarily but for the time and money a $99 remote starter from circuit city will be your best bet. If you are just a technology junkie and need to make one, I would look at radio shack for remote transmitters and start modifying the receiver to handle the 12v system and correct amperage for your cars starter.

Man thats a tough thing to do......the way most works is you tap the button and it cranks it over until it senses the engine reving up (from a tach input) and it doesn't start it will quit after so long. Making the circuit would be a pain in the ass, making a circuit where you hold the button is easy, but can have bad effects on your starting system plus if you where that close to here it running you might as well just turn the key. Buying a kit and having a place like circuit city install it is definately worth the money.

Don't know where you are but if in Canada Canadian Tire has starters from $79. Two way with alarm and door locks is less than $200. You'd be hard pressed to make one for that I'd think.
