1967 Ford Mustang Coupe 289 for $125.00 US dollars!
Yep that's right, you heard me $125.00 US dollars.
That is what my old lady paid for it!! And the best part is the damn engine still runs!! So now we need to restore it, but the bad news is we have no experience with restoration, so any advice, input, or ideas are welcome. We took some before pics, when she gets them developed I'll post them, and the progress pics as we go along with the TFP Mustang Coupe 289 project. Woo Hoo!! |
$125.00?!? Dayum! How bad of shape is the thing in? The engine runs, but is the car itself still operable? As far as restoring it, for something like that, I would start fromthe ground up, from bumper to bumper, down to last bolt and the last clip. It'll be worth the work, in the long run.
Good find. But if it were a '66...then I'd be really jealous. :) |
Has a few rust spots, 3 holes total one is above the rear quarter panel not to bad on the exterior, need to replace the floor panels, rear glass has "none" no cracks or chips, front has one circular crack, man that old glass is "thick", other than that I would say it is in fairly decent shape and would be worth restoring.

I'd be a little worried about rusted out floorboards, as they're part of the structure on a unibody car. First thing I'd do is have a reputable body shop check it out and see if that can be repaired feasably. If so you got the deal of a lifetime, and if not you can still make a nice return on your investment by parting it out.

Is it an original V8 car or did an original 6 get swapped out? If it is originally an 8, do the numbers match?
Definitely a great deal no matter. |
I would do the engine work my self but the best deal might have a shop do it for you....ya that cost money but hell you got the car for 125 dollars
|
How skilled are you? Do you have air tools?
Get a trusted shop to completely check out the chassis for rust and weak spots. Have em fix it all. Then look in some junkyards for original body parts. Of yeah, good find, especially with good rear glass still on there! |
It is the original V8, we ran it for about an hour sounds smooth and quiet. Can you say Flowmaster! It also has the original 3 speed tranny.
Also I have already been under it when I took out the seats and checked the under carriage and frame, has a little rust but other the that it's solid. I have been online looking for Classic used Stangs, does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can look around in the Texas area? |

If your up to it, restore it yourself. Vintage-Mustang.com is a great reasource, and they are pretty easy to work on.
Personally I have a 1968 Coupe with a 289ci w/c4 auto. It's a fun car, but I need to sell it soon because I cant afford a 'fun car' right now (college and all :() One thing is forsure, everyone loves them, esp. people that grew up around them, then youngians like me :D |
