Looking for an Amp..

I think.. I just got 4 new Pioneer 6.5 inch speakers to replace my stock ones. Was just wondering if an amp is what I need to give it a little more boost so I don't have to have the distortion of them being full blast. Any ideas what a good cheap one is?

An amp will improve your sound no end. I would stick to a the big brands that you know. Without knowing what model your speakers are, go for a 4 channel amp with about 30-40 watts RMS power output. Depending on you headunit, try and use its preouts, they will give much better sound that the speaker outs to the amp. Get some good RCA leads if you are using preouts.

Post you headunit model number and speaker model numbers and I can help you more from there......

Your head unit is the CD player/Radio that sits in your dash

I had a look at Pioneer amps, the model that would suit you is a GM-X374. This would work great with you speakers. And you should be able to pickup one for about $110 to $150 US dollars.

Or for a few more bucks $140 to $180 you cant go passed the Alpine MRP-F240, which would be my choice.

Any idea how hard / easy it is to install one of these things? I'm a complete newb at this stuff. Hell I don't even know where it goes. I'm assuming the trunk or something. :-D

Ok, If you are a complete newb to this, it would be a good idea if you get someone to help you that knows what is going on. If you have no-one that can help, go to a shop and for a small fee Im sure that they will help you.

There are a few different places that an amp can go. The boot (trunk) is the most popular place. Another is under the front seats. Depending on the car, there are many more places for fittment.

Well I don't know anyone who knows so It looks like my only bet is to go to best buy and get ripped off the ass for them to install it. I think I'm just gonna screw the amp. And money is a big factor when you make 5.60 an hour working at Eckerd. Hah!

Its really not that hard........ The instructions that come with the amp would explain everything that you need to know. And if you are good with your hands you shouldn't have to many problems with it.......

Usually they have free installation on more expensive car items.
One my first car ( front left speaker was out) i went to Bestbuy to buy a pair or new front speakers. After an hour of installation (FREE) they found out it wasn't the speaker, but the head unit. So they took out the speakers and I bought a new cheap head unit which they installed for FREE.

They don't sell the right amps at best buy for me I think.. Plus they dont always install free. It's usually a certain promotion or something.
