Best car in each category

Luxury Car: Bentley Arnage
Sports Car: Chevy Corvette
SUV: Hummer H2 (barely, minuses for gas mileage) (and SUV being used, as an SUV, not grocery trips)
Supercar: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
Family Car (cheap): Honda Accord
Family Car (rich): Mercedes SL500

Is this from a magazine or something or personal opinion?

Coucher 08-27-2003 07:52 PM

*Note*

I'm speaking from personal experience. i.e Cars I've owned and/or driven.

*Note*

Luxury Car: Cadillac STS
Sports Car: Chevy Corvette ZR1
SUV: GMW Typhoon
Supercar: Hmm,....riden in Vipers, driven ZR1's. Closest to supercars I've experienced. I'd say ZR1.
Family Car (cheap): Lexus GS400
Family Car (rich): BMW M5

kwIII 08-27-2003 07:56 PM

GS400 cheap? I consider a cheap family car being less than 30k

Well, I guess I kinda cheated there. You can pick them up used, still in great shape with low miles for well under that.

kwIII 08-27-2003 07:59 PM

btw you guys forgot a truck category;)

That's easy.

Truck(sport) - GMC Syclone

Truck(real deal) - Ford F-350 Powerstroke crew cab dually 4x4

kwIII 08-27-2003 08:04 PM

have you driven the new 6.0L diesels? I most say they have some serious power and when at idle you could almost swear it wasn't a diesel. As long as ford can get the bugs out with the new injectors, which I am pretty sure they are.

Coucher 08-27-2003 08:06 PM

I've driven a crew cab long bed 6.0L, but not a dually. I must say I was impressed as well. I'm not typically a Ford guy, but I would give anything to be pimping a F-350 crew cab dually.

Typhoons in the SUV Category? I can think of about 10 SUV's of the top of my head I'd rather have then a freaking Typhoon.

Depends on what you want an SUV for. Performance, soccer momness, or off road.

I'm more performance geared, hence the Typhoon choice.

And as I said, my choices were made from vehicles I have had personal contact with.

Luxury Car: BMW (Any of the Higher Class Series)
Sports Car: New Nissan Infiniti's..Not sure if it's considered a sports car.
SUV: Not big on SUV's...I guess a Hummer
Supercar: Check this thread for the Ultimate in Sports Cars..Here Or a 64 AC Shelby Cobra
Family Car (cheap): Honda Civic Coupe
Family Car (rich): 300M Series

goobster 08-28-2003 04:53 AM

Easy picks. Any car or truck that will get from points A to B.

Mill 08-28-2003 09:35 AM

Hummer H2 best SUV! Go drive the new Range Rover since cost is no option in those picks. It's truly remarkable on and off road for an SUV.

Peryn 08-28-2003 09:58 AM

The ass ugly Mercedes SUV (cant think of the name....G-something i think). You wouldn't think it from the looks, but its one beast of a mountain climber.

For rock-crawling or something more slow and extreme like that, i think i'd take the new Wrangler Rubicon though.

soccerchamp76 08-28-2003 12:56 PM

SUV: no interest
Truck: Silverado SS
Supercar: 911T
Family car (cheap): ES300
Family car (spendy): IS300

DEI37 08-29-2003 06:16 PM

This is a hard one to do. My choices will be a mix of what I've driven and what I haven't.

Luxury: VW Phaeton (not driven)
Sports: Corvette ZO6 (driven)
SUV: Hummer H1 (driven)
Truck: Silverado CC duallie Duramax, 6-speed (driven)
Supercar: Ferrari 575M Maranello (driven...does GREAT burnouts)
Family car (cheap): Cadillac CTS M/T (driven)
Family car (not cheap): Cadillac CTS-V (not driven)

What I like is that the CTS-V is quicker and faster than the current BMW M5. And, Kurant, the RS6 does not blow the doors off of the M5. And, the M5 is a better looking and more refined (in my opinion) drive.

Specs between the two. The 2002 M5 listed first, the 2003 RS6 second.

0-60mph: 4.6/4.3
1/4 mile: 13.1 @ 109.4/12.6 @ 108.6
60mph-0 braking: 116'/113'
Slalom Speed: 67.0 mph/67.8 mph
Skidpad grip: 0.88-ish (can't locate the exact figure)/0.89

You would expect the lower 0-60mph times for the Audi due to 56 more horsepower and all wheel drive, but the BMW comes back with a higher 1320' trap speed. Braking is equal, and the slalom speeds have a negligible difference.

And this is the 394hp M5. Just wait for the new M5...550hp from the V10. 0-60 is looking to drop in to the 3 second category. And, it's less spendy than the RS6.
