First I started with the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. Sexy car. Wish I hadn't given it up. Everything else is a downgrade from there on.

2001 Chevrolet Malibu was by far the ugliest car I have ever owned. Never again, chevrolet, never again. 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue is what I call a working car. Sure, it's made out of plastic all around but I pay nothing for it and I got it dirt cheap. It has all the practicality GM intended the cheap material it's made out of to be for and good gas mileage, what can I say ... I love it. :)

Dude, I've known many to own a Chevy Malibu, but I've never known any to enjoy a Chevy Malibu...

Same story for the Cavalier...

'89 Buick Skylark-- Lucille
'88 Chevy Corsica -- Lucinda
'89 Chevy Celebrity-- Layla
'97 Lincoln Continental -- Lola

Next is hopefully a Wrangler, but will most likely be a pickup. Either Linda or Lita for a name...

Ohhhhh, why I got rid of them. They all broke, to the point where it was cheaper to get another car than to fix what happened.. Except for Lola, but I get the feeling she won't be truckin' for much longer.

'75 Chevy Monte Carlo (white) - was stolen
'77 VW Rabbit (bright sky blue) - traded in for something, can't remember
'79 Chrysler Sapporo (metallic gold) - bought this from my dad but don't remember what happened next
'86 Mazda 626 (charcoal gray) - I'd probably still have it if some idiot in a parking lot didn't drag him across a parking lot when she hit the gas instead of the brake to park facing him. Loved that car.
'90 Plymouth Sundance (black cherry) - Hated it and traded for storage for my future batch of kids.
'92 Dodge Caravan (red) - Did the job but wanted a new car.
'00 Isuzu Rodeo (sorta red) - Totally totalled. It was good to us though.
04" Hyundai Elantra (navy blue) - He's been good and kept us safe so far.

I may be off a year or two on some and I reserve the right to edit if I eventually recall what's missing. Getting old is a bitch sometimes. :p

'73 Ford Pinto station wagon. I beat the shit out of that car. Overheated the engine and retired it.

'80 Plymouth Champ. Lost the clutch and couldn't afford in those days to fix it right. We needed cash, sold it for far less than what it was worth.

'79 Chevy Chevette. Came with the wife. We would alternate driving this and the Champ depending on which one cost less to fix at the time. It got sold with the Champ.

'86 Dodge Aries. Heaping pile of shit this thing was. But we kept it on the road from '87 until '93. It had four doors and served us well enough with three small boys.

'88 Dodge Ram 50. Good little truck. Kept it untill '95. Wish I still had it.

'93 Ford Aerostar minivan. Traded the Aries in on this. Not too sexy, but a good wagon. Served us well until '99.

'95 Ford Probe. Not a bad little car. Being an adult and maintaining it and driving like an adult it lasted me until '07. It needed some minor engine work when I traded it in, but it was still in very good condition.

'99 Ford Expedition. I still have this vehicle and it is going strong. I wouldn't hesitate to take it cross country if needed. As it seats eight we use it often for taking the whole family out.

'99 Ford Ranger. This is what the boys drove while they were home before they bought their own vehicles. Two of the boys wrecked it and the third was equally hard on it. I still have it though and it is my daily driver.

'06 Mazda RX8 Shinka. Mostly a weekend driver. I'll keep this car for a long time as I have the previous two vehicles.

LoganSnake 07-03-2009 07:35 AM

Too many cars to remember and list here, since I've been driving since 1975.

I will say, however, that every single Ford, or GM vehicle I've ever owned has been junk. Nowadays, we only buy Toyota, Honda or Subaru. There's a lot to be said for a car that starts everytime you turn the key, mile after mile.

Daniel_ 07-15-2009 12:41 PM

1974 Vauxhall Viva - a junkheap that I learned to drive on, lasted one year. It was blue on the outside, but the back doors were green on the inside. The pinstripe on the left was gold, and on the right was black.
http://www.motorbase.com/pictures/co...xhall_viva.jpg

1975 Renault 12 Estate - another junk heap. It was white, except for the front left wing which was dark green. Lasted 3 years.
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/763...1975800bn7.jpg

1984 Renault 9 - in gold. Lasted a couple of years.
http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimag...%209%20GTL.jpg

1987 Peugeot 309 - white. Drove it for a year, and gave it to my then wife.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...geot309_SR.jpg

1987 Rover 216 Gti Vitesse - in black. The first car I bought that was in decent order and cost more than a handful of change. This was the first car I took out a loan for.
http://www.aronline.co.uk/press/6-88-2094-b3.jpg

1994 Rover 620i - in slate grey. The first nearly new car I ever had (I bought it when it was just 4 years old). It was lovely, but following a minor accident that left several body panels scratched (but not bent) was deemed to be too expensive to repair by my insurance company, who gave me a cheque for the residual value.
http://cdn.motors.co.uk/d/used-photo.../0/R656UOH.jpg

1997 Renault Megane Scenic in Maroon. I bought this for my wife to use, and gave it to her when we divorced. I kept the house. I heard later that she'd given it to her boyfriend shorlt before cheating on him and slitting up - I guess it was easier for her to make him leave when he had something to take his stuff in.
http://coventry.gumtree.com/posting_...07.__big__.jpg

2001 Renault Megane Coupe 1.6l also in slate grey. Lovely car, destroyed by a drunk Irishman crashing a truck into a row of parked cars outside my house 2 seconds after I told my current wife that if there really was a God he'd give people obvious signs of his existence.
http://cardiff.gumtree.com/posting_i...d0.__big__.jpg

2000 Renault Megane Coupe 1.4l in silver. Bought with the insurance money from the wreck of the above.

2003 Mazda 6 TS - my current car.

60-something Triumph ... meant to restore it, never road worthy
'67 Dodge Dart... totaled out from under me by a hit-and -run
'65 Chrysler Newport 2 door.... loved that land yacht!
'67 Chevy Impala 2 door.... loved it! When my sister couldn't make her payments, I swapped it to her for her...
'72 Chevy Nova ... nice car, nice power, totaled by my wife 2 months after we got married
'77 Chrysler Cordoba... great riding car, lean burn engine control totally sucked
'69 Chevy Impala... ran like the proverbial raped ape!
'70 Pontiac Bonneville... too many repairs, got rid of quickly
'78 Ford Country Squire... another endless series of repairs
'76 Chevy G10... great for hauling amps and drums
'78 Cadillac Coupe de Ville... pretentious elegance... I loved it
'88 Plymouth Horizon... bowing to practicality
'86 Buick Century... I kinda liked that car... stolen and stripped
'89 Dodge Dynasty... electrical nightmares
'95 Pontiac Transport... pretty cool for a minivan, and that 3.8 could really scoot!
'96 Dodge Caravan... a real come down after the Transport, but this workhorse covered most of the US east of the Mississippi
2000 Chevy Express... The Romeo Flynns' rolling billboard

I've got a nagging suspicion I'm forgetting some.

Hektore 07-18-2009 03:46 AM

1990 Ford Taurus SHO I loved this car - it threw a rod.

04 Pontiac GTO (sold due to birth of first child...damn it)

I have to say I miss the GTO the most. The car was an absolute BLAST to wheel in.

Austin Maestro
Ford Orion
Austin Metro
Another Austin Metro
Skoda Favorit Estate
Peugeot 205 (the car I had for the least amount, bought and sold it on in a week)
Vauxhall Cavalier
Peugeot 306
Ford Orion
Ford Sierra
Peugeot 405 Estate
Nissan Bluebird
Ford Escort

I think I got them in order, I have a different car every year its hard to remember

The most I ever paid for a car is I think the Escort I have now - paid £280 (about 500 USD) - thats also the newest car Ive ever had was only 11 years old when I bought it.

Best and favourite car I ever had was the Nissan, without a doubt.

Jadey 07-25-2009 11:31 AM

My first was a 1976 Malibu Classic. It was maroon and the gas gauge didn't work. I had to keep track of my mileage.

-1986 Pontiac 6000 2-door that had a $150 paint job from Earl Scheib.

- 1982 Volkswagon Vanagon. It had the air cooled engine and very little heat. I kept ice scrapers in it so we could scrape the inside of the windows. Because of the van I was "the transporter" in college and made some cash here and there, but if I got too many people in there with the cold weather the inside of the windows would frost over.

- 1982 Chevy Conversion van that I lost when a tree fell on it during a hurricane.

- 1994 Ford Escort. I felt like I was always driving a clown car.

- 1994 Pontiac Bonneville SSE. This was red and loaded with every option I could have imagined. Heated leather seats, 6-disk CD changer, sun roof, heads up display, etc. It had 80,000 miles on it when I got it but the body and interior was in fantastic shape. It made it to 140k miles before the transmission went out and I traded it in.

- 1998 Ford Explorer Sport. I still have this, but mainly just drive it back and forth to work.

I've been looking at getting another VW Van, just haven't found the right one yet. I'd like to find one that needs some body/interior work but is mechanically sound. I'd enjoy doing the body work myself and getting it just the way I want.

Not a lot of luxury car owners here it seems...

DJMala 08-05-2009 07:57 PM

Man, I guess I'm a long term commitment kind of guy. In 15 years of driving, I've only ever owned two cars...

1989 Chevy Beretta GT - Bought it in 1995 when I was 17, traded it in 2003 with about 175k on the clock. It was still a pretty good car, but it had lots of minor problems.

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT - Got 137k on it so far. I'm starting to get the itch for a new car, but it'll be a while yet before I do anything about it.

I'm thinking my next car will be something other than a mid-sized American V6 coupe, for a change.

Holden HK sedan Wrecked it.
F100 ute. Sold it... dumb thing to do...

2001 VW Citi Golf. First and only car I've ever owned. In fact, I technically don't own it now, as it's still in my mother's name. 190 000 km's on the clock and still going strong.

When I was 16, my dad handed me down the first new car he ever bought (he bought it when I was 4)......

1968 Olds Cutlass Supreme

then..

1988 Acura Integra

1992 Jeep Cherokee

current:

1968 Chevy Impala SS Convertible 327

2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT

in the market for something to replace the blazer now, I'm never getting rid of the Impala!

1. an '89 Dodge Dakota, which my dad sold after I got in a wreck and ripped off someone's rear bumper. I decided driving a truck with big metal fenders just wasn't for me.

2. an '89 Volvo 240, which I named Zippy, and sold. Wish I hadn't. I could still be tooling around in Zippy, getting 30mpg. My parents were the original owners, and it was in very good shape despite being possibly in need of a new transmission.

3. a '94 Volvo 940 wagon, which is named Baby but often referred to as the "Hot Box" in summertime, as the A/C is dead. I learned to drive on Baby. She is a lease return that my parents acquired around Mother's Day, 1996, and signed over to me a couple years ago. I will probably drive it until it dies. I have a lot of memories associated with that car.

First was a piece of shit '80 Ford Escort. Meh.

Second was an '80 Z28.

(not this one, but almost identical)

My first car was a free 1986 Toyota Corolla SR5, From my Uncle, Someone gave it to him and told him the motor was blown up in it, and we put a fuel pump on it and it ran for a lil over a year..... And then the motor blew up.

1923 Ford T-Bucket that I traded for:
1952 Chevy Pickup 5 Window
1956 Chevy Stepside Pickup: Needed the money.
1958 Chevy Fleetside Pickup: Still got it
1969 Ford Lincoln Continental: Got tired of working on it.
1969 Ford Fleetside Pickup: Transmission lost reverse.
1984 Chevy s-10 Blazer 4X4: Transmission lost high gear
1988 Chevy Silverado Fleetside: Still got it.

The_Dunedan 10-09-2009 05:35 PM

1971 MG Midget MkIII. Tuned, re-trannied, with a virtually new suspension coupled with predictable brilliant hydraulic brakes and Lucas electrics. Ran like stink in the twisties. Wrecked, in spectacular fashion.

1999 Mistubishi Something-or-Other. Wholly unremarkable except for the fact that this vehicle managed to be even more maintainence-intensive than the Midget. That's right, spent more time and money fixing this thing than a British car! Sold for scrap after devouring 2 engines, 2 transmissions, and no less than -seven- flex-plates.

1989 Ponrtiac Grand Prix. Rubbish. Crashed twice, scarfed it's way through 3 alternators and most of an engine before giving up and being sold for scrap.

1994 Toyota Tercel. Battered, beaten, but never until the last moment broken, this little thing took everything I could throw at it. It handled almost as well as the Midget, neaded less maintainence than anything previous and, despite looking like a piece of moldy cheese, was actually fairly comfortable.

1998 Saturn Something-or-Other. Purple. Looked like a chick's car. Ran like a top, handled decently in the snow, sipped gasoline and purred its' way to Louisiana and back. Sold to a relative, who promptly destroyed it.

1999 Mercury Tracer. Brilliant little car, just like the Tercel which it basically is...until the rear suspesion rotted out. Soon to be sold for parts and scrap.

1988 Oldsmobile Thingamajig. Company car. Comfortable for long trips, but zero fun in the mountains. I want my manual transmissions back.

remy1492 10-09-2009 05:51 PM

1999 Ford Explorer. totalled with FIRESTONE tires. walked away.
replaced it with another........
1999 Ford Explorer. Then found out a month later about the Tires. 6months later, the firestones on this one blew out, almost totalled the car. Its still going strong now.

Looking to get a Pathfinder now. No more US cars for me.

Xerxys 10-09-2009 07:14 PM

^^ I dunno man, don't you think the problem is maybe the TIRES and not the make and model of cars? I've heard very good things about Explorer's and Expeditions manufactured between '95 and '02.

You want all out? Stop pussying out and get a range rover.

89' Ford Probe... great starter car, blew the head gasket, destroyed the tranny, fixed both of them, vowed to never get that intimate with a car again.
95' Chevy Cavalier... worst car I have owned, nothing but troubles.
97' VW Golf... the thing is a tank, could not break down even if I wanted it to.

boink 11-01-2009 09:32 PM

'70 bug...burnt up the engine, hey it was my first car (sorry mom )
'68 Karmann Ghia fun car, too much rust for me to tackle sold...
'77 basemodel VW Rabbit no chrome set up for autocross. very fond memories. wrecked by an uninsured driver after a Dead concert.
'73 Karmann Ghia, massive flairs made of fiberglass and bondo. drove like crap but looked really cool if you were 19
'65 Ford Econoline puckup (you know the odd cab over ones) loved it but it had a cracked block and I traded it.
'?? Ford Escort...total crap car with no style whatsoever. gave it away.
'71 convertible Karmann Ghia...loved it, lowerd it saved up to restore but but had to sell quick to get a down payment for....
'67 assembled convertible (what it says on the title)...this is a kit car of a '57 Porsche Speedster produced by the first company to do this. still have it, love it.
3 Golf MKII's loved them all, all were stolen and stripped.
'86 CRX Si...incredible cheap car to own...stolen
'85 Double Cab Vanagon truck current daily driver. love it.

so, my current cars are a weird rear engine VW truck and the Speedster. just about perfect but I'd love to have more money to put into them.

Listed in order that I owned them.

1970 Dodge Dart Swinger: first car
1966 Plymouth Valiant: 44,000 original miles when purchased
1990 Honda Prelude si: loved that car
1997 Chevy S10: lowered, rims, system; eventually stolen, biggest POS I ever owned
1994 Jeep Wrangler Renegade: lifted it 4", and put some 35" tires, fun vehicle; traded it in for my Civic
1999 Honda Civic si: owned this car the longest, loved it
2005 Ford Focus: totaled in a wreck and kept me safe, hated the car
2007 Volkswagen Rabbit: current vehicle; hate the name, love the car

laconic1 01-21-2010 08:45 AM

1991 Chevy Corsica: kind of a piece of crap, bad paint, but was a cheap car to own. Drove it for 10 years.
1998 Chevy Malibu: Free car to replace the Corsica. Had to put about $1700 to fix all the problems with it at the time it was given to me and buy new tires and wheels for it. Driven it for 4 years now and other than needing a routine brake job and new tires it has been perfectly reliable, surprisingly enough for a car with a poor reliability reputation and 160,000 miles on it.

90s Chevy Cavalier - bought used and sold
90s K Car - hand-me-down from Mother in law, drove until it died (left it at the junkyard)

'89 Acura Integra - bought it new ... in '03 my wicked ex made me sell it
'02 Land Cruiser - drove it coast to coast. Still running and still strong.
'04 Lexus RX 330 - my wife's car ... she still thinks it's an SUV
'04 Lexus GS 430 - my commuter car ... put 160.000 miles on it without a problem ... until my mom drove it into the water. She's OK but the car was history.
'10 Ford Mustang GT - just drove off the lot 2 weeks ago ... love it more than any other car I've owned to date.

cj2112 02-14-2010 04:41 PM

'86 Yamaha XT350 I rode that bike everywhere. I think I put 20,000 miles on it in a year.
'79 Ford Fairmont - Bought for $300.00 it had bad rings and probably more Bondo than sheet metal. The motor finally let go while out on a date.
'79 Mercury Cougar XR7 - ex-wife totaled it.
'79 Mercury Monarch - Bought for $50. It had no reverse, I drove that car for 2 or 3 years before I sent it to the junkyard.
'80 Ford Fiesta - Never did get that thing to run right...Major electrical issues.
'84 Nissan Stanza - I loved that car, my ex-wife totaled it.
'89 Geo Metro - I got burned when I bought this car...it had major mechanical problems.

'87 Dodge Colt - 4 engines and 2 transmissons later I sold it to a guy I worked with.
'76 K5 Chevy Blazer w/ a 300 h.p. 350 c.i. and 35" tires. It had a camouflage paint job, headers, 3" dual exhaust with burnt out glass packs and a Gov-Loc rear end. I got into more trouble in that thing. I loved it!
'93 Nissan Sentra - Great car. Great Mileage. Boring as can be.
'04 Intrepid - My wife's car. It was a great car, she hated it, but we couldn't find anything bad to say about it other than it just wasn't her.
Currently:
'81 Chev. El Camino - Going to be my daughters car...eventually. I love my El Camino, it has a lot of history. (it was stolen from my parents, gone for 11-1/2 years, and they got it back in better condition than it was when it was stolen)It's gonna be hard to let her have it.
'00 f150 4x4 Flareside - I love my truck. It has the Lariat package w/ all the bells and whistles, leather interior etc. Nicest vehicle I've ever owned.
'06 Scion xB - This is the Wife's car. I didn't want to like this frigidaire on wheels, but it's a pretty sweet ride. She loves the thing, and finally understands my obsession w/ my truck. I imagine she'll keep this one for a while.

95 Geo Tracker tranny died

95 Chrysler Le Baron Convertible sold to buy the PT

Currently

2002 Pt Cruiser

2002 Ford Focus

I had some others but they lasted a month or 2 and fell a part.

I have always been one to buy cheap cars for cash, no car loans, and drive them till they die (or I crash). The only cars I've ever had a loan on were the Nissan Pickup and the PT.

I loved the Fieros, Pulsar, Tracker, Le Baron and MG. Would kill to own any of those again.
