i have a 2000 isuzu rodeo. ive been prompt with maintenance, changing oil/ filter and air filter every 5k. all major tune ups were done, the most recently 100000, which included changing all fluids, spark plugs, fuel filter, and such. it is currently at 120k. im an aveage to conservative driver, using it for commuting. ive recently noticed that my mileage to the tank has been falling. i used to get around 300 miles to approx 16 gallons. im currently getting about 240 miles to 16 gallons. nothing has changed in my commutes or driving style. i keep the tire pressure high, and add air when needed. is it just wear and tear thats causing the loss? or could there be something else im not aware of?

it could be, or it could be that you're using a different gas. Did you switch from a pure gasoline to a gas/ethanol blend? Even 10% ethanol will lower your mileage.

Additionally, what kind of climate do you live in? Cold weather will lower your mileage because cold air is more dense, which means you use more fuel to burn it. The good news there is that your car is also more powerful in cold weather

There are several possibilities to look into. All of the various sensors, such as the oxygen sensor in the exhaust, throttle position sensor, Idle air control, things like that. other things worth checking, have your timing belt replaced, if it is becoming warn the valves wont be opening and closing at the optimal times. Dirty fuel injectors could reduce mileage also. Also, it could be several of these things together, that while minor by themselves can add up.

i live in a warm climate, even in this month. i use 86 octane.

no smells or smoke, but i do notice that when i start it up, it takes about 10 seconds before the idle 'gets through'. kinda feels like the fuel line is clogged, or the fuel injectors are.

ill look into those suggested, thanks for the info.
