Tubal Ligation tomarrow

Well I am finally getting it done. Tubal Ligation Tomarrow. They intend to simply slip a band over the pinched tubes and the two incisions will only be 4mm long each. They plan to use general anthesia. I am hoping I can convince them to use conscious sedation because I'm a little freaked about being completely knocked out. I have had two major surgeries and never been under general anethesia.

Anyone want to help calm my fears of general anesthesia their comments would be appreciated.

I have walked into the garage and seen the numerous boxes of baby things, the crib, strollers, walker, swing, etc. I may need some things because I am continuing to do childcare but as for the clothes and things - I will be needing to clean out most of it. The reality is starting to hit me. I keep asking myself "Are you really sure?" At least I can say without hesitation that I am. I'm almost afraid that I will get twinges of second thoughts afterwards. These questions aren't second thoughts. I'm almost amazed that I am going through with it. At the same time it feels like this is where I want to be now and for the rest of my life. I'm content and I don't think that will change.

Any ladies who want to share how sterilization made them feel emotionally I would care to hear it as well.

Thanks in advance for the support.

Psycho

I'd just like to add that I've been under two generals, and I've never had an issue. Coming round is a little weird, as you wake up somewhere that you didn't fall asleep in, but other than that I've recovered from both my operations (operation related symptoms, not those due to the problem being fixed, obviously), one major and one minor within hours.

General anesthesa at your age, isn't a big deal really, just make sure you follow the instructions you were given about not eating before - when they say no eating after 6:00pm or whatever the time is - -follow it -- the worst part of general anesthesia is the nausea that you might encounter if you don't have an empty stomach... (i beleive it applies to drinks too - including water.)

At your age, i would just ask you to think about it one last time before you do this - of course it's reversable, but be sure you are doing it for the right reasons, because you honestly don't want more children... doing it for your lifestyle doesn't seem to be the best reason and i'd hate to see you have regrets down the road.

good luck - whatever you decide make sure it's the best for you... and good thoughts with you tomorrow.

This is more because I hated pregnancy, labor, and a c-section and least of all about the lifestyle. I wrote more about this in my journal.

p.s. I'm sorry I meant to put this in health. Dunno how I ended up in sexuality, though it SORTOF fits.

I can't help ease your fears of anesthesia because I'm really sensitive to it, but once you wake up, you'll probably just feel groggy and possibly a little nauseous.

Good luck tomorrow, I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision to come to. Feel better soon!!!

The nausea is what I fear most strangely enough. It's the reason I don't want general anesthesia. I'm supposedly not allowed to eat ANYTHING after midnight. This means that I will likely not eat until 2:00pm at the absolute EARLIEST.

My experience is that you go to sleep and then wake up and everything is done. I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed by a dentist because I was afraid of an oral surgeon and another by a surgeon while out. Man, what a difference!!

Insane

Be prepared for nausea. Throwing up with nothing in your tummy is definitely not pleasant. But you won't care because you'll be too groggy to care. Don't eat or drink after they say not to. Good luck.

Well - I did it.
Only the slightest bit of nausea. They had to intubate me which means that now my throat feels like they ran a brillo pad up and down it. The CO2 that they pumped me full of is what did a real number on me. My hips, legs, back and somewhat my shoulders too just throbbed from about 3:00 yesterday until nearly midnight last night. Between that and cramping I was miserable. Even with the 800mg of Ibuprophen, 700mg Tylenol, and 10 mg of codine that they told me to take I was writhing in pain for a time and couldn't sleep or lie still. Now they just feel bruised.
I have no spotting as they expected and the bandages still look pristine. I will be able to remove them this afternoon and actually shower. The incisions themselves are not very tender at all. I can even lie on them without pain. Quick twisting motions seem to be all that irritate them.
They found two hernias that they were unable to fix immediately. They suggest I get them repaired next week or so. My restrictions for the two sugeries will overlap then and I won't be recovering for a long all together then. This is good news in a way though. It confirms for me (as for my mother as well) that I needed to do this. Another pregnancy would likely have torn those hernias even greater. 3 hernias in three different places within 9 months shows that membranes are weak. Who knows what another pregnancy would have done to me.
I am exhausted but so far I have had no regrets.

Glad to hear that things worked out. Wasn't it nice to just sleep and let them do their thing?

Actually - because I was under general anesthesia they put the tube down my throat - my throat still hurts. Also they did something with my hips - gonna interogate the Doc on Wed about that - cause my hips still feel bruised.

I know they had no choice for anesthesia - it was safer under general. I feel like they did not inform me of everything that was going to happen and because of that I feel resentful. I will be expecting a full explanation on Wed though. If I get what I want then I should be fine with it all then.

I guess the not wanting to be put asleep plays into my fear of being out of control. I just don't deal with that well - gives me panic attacks sometimes.
