Beef Jerky Okay for Atkins???

So, I'm going on the Atkins diet as soon as alcohol stops falling in my lap. I was just wondering if beef jerky is okay for Atkins. I read the label and there's 6 carbs in Oberto's original.

Dr. Atkins died from a head injury sustained from a fall on ice. As far as the jerky goes, I think it depends on how its cured. I believe sometimes sugar is used, which should be avoided but small portions should be ok.

Ah, but why did Atkins fall? Lack of carbohydrates! Made him weak and easily lost his balance. Your brain needs carbohydrates to function. Plus Atkins type diets only work for a short term adjustment period, then your body starts to regain weight. Not to mention the damage you might be doing to your kidneys and liver in the meantime. NO thanks!

psstt..we're all gonna die

As far as the beef jerky goes, yes, you can have. But like someone else stated, it all depends how it's cured. Pemican (sp?) jerky makes different kinds and they tend to have the fewest carbs in them, especially the peppered jerky.

Anyways, good luck with the diet! I've lost 30 lbs on Atkins since the New Year.

And oh, Snickers makes two great low carb bars. They have 3 grams per bar and they taste great (for low carb that is). It's fairly new to the market, so you may have search for 'em, but believe me, it's worth it

*rant - Can we not stay a little closer to the thread topic? The back button is just 1 click, while your negative comments require many clicks (and hopefully the research to back up your negative comments). /rant

Beef jerky "can" be eaten during Atkins induction "if" it falls into your net carbs for the day. Sticking to 20 carbs is tough if you follow the program. The beef jerky that I ate was only 1 carb and I used it as a snack. Read the package carefully. Look for hidden carbs.

All the new candy bars, breakfast bars, drinks, etc..... They are not for induction. I would avoid them as they make it too easy to fail.

Make sure you are getting the full 20 carbs, that you know about the supplements, the fiber, and that cheating starts you all over.

I have tried to do Atkins induction while having alcohol. It does not work at all for me. Your body will burn the alcohol and you will rarely lose any weight. Induction does not allow alcohol anyway. Use induction to clean your body. It probably could use a break from the booze, like mine did.

-42 pounds. If I have a heart attack, I will blame it on genetics, smoking, and to many fast foods.

Oberto also makes a low carb jerky. I dont really know the difference between that and regular jerky, but I just thought that I'd let you know.

Why not have some nice chicken instead. Try it with a nice big spinach salad, with lots of mushrooms, tomatos and olives and some balsamic vineagar.
