I don't know how blind I am, but have been nearsighted for 18 years. If I had the money I'd do it, and worry about it later. 15 years of not having to wear glasses would be worth having to wear them again later on.

-6.75, mum was -7.5 and had it done, she has perfect vision now... it can be done down to around -8,5 depending on your type of eye (smaller cornea => greater -ve capable of being dealt with)... I want it done however this new stem cell thing sounds fun... might stick with my bottle tops (actually really thin) for a while... some chicks dig glasses right?

Out of interest, is astigmatism a conta-indication for Lasik?

It's my understanding that a large astigmatism will not allow the surgery to be done, but I had a small amount and it still went fine.

Oh, BTW, am officially at 20/15 right now. Crap - this went better than I thought it might!

I would love to have this done too but the cash and the risk.....too much If they mess you up - there are no take backs or refunds.....Does anyone know what the risks percentage is? How does it compare to other procedures.....I know general anesthesia is a risk by itself...is that as an example more dangerous than this surgery?

Egads I am a mere -3.75 and -1.00 and I have been wanting this when I graduate college for a good year or so. I don't envy those of you who are -7.00 and lower. Ick. I never thought that some people might not be able to get it either, hope I am a candidate, I hate not being able to see across my room when I wake up in the morning to read the clock.

I had mine done in May. I am 39, and wore glasses for 33 years. I was 20/1000 in my left eye, and 20/800 in my right eye. I am now 20/30 in each eye, and I absolutely love it. Mrs. Byesman made me have it done, and man oh man am I glad. I suggest anyone who needs it get it done. My procedure wasn't to bad, they gave me a Valium before the procedure, and I was so relaxed they could have done it a couple of times. To those fearful of it, go for the procedure. It's worth it!

i been thinking of doing it for quite a while now....i hate wearing glasses i so want to get rid of them ...... one thing kinda kept me back is i never knew how much it cost...
how much did it run you to get your procedure done?

I heard that LASIK shouldn't be done because you eye will later curve again as the cells rebuild, and you will lose your almost-perfect eyesight ..

You will have to go again?

I don't know, someone clear my doubts.

I have very bad sight in one of my eyes, so I wanted to read this thread. I wanted to know about the details. But you see, I have a problem. I am VERY sensitive about eyes. Not only can nothing go near mine, but I get uncomfortable seeing shit goes near other peoples. If I see someone putting in a contact lense, my mind is screaming "OF FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO YOUR EYE!!!" Having that said, I got about a third of the way through the first page of posts when I felt like I was gonna hurl just from a few little details. I don't think I will ever be able to have this surgury unless they can either a) put me asleep while they do it or b) put me on some seriously hopped-up shit; i mean enough to get an elephant singing Cat Stevens.
