I got a promotion... and Im a littel nervous!
 

well, today I got offered a promotion, and have accepted it.

Im now going to be a team leader, or supervisor, of a team of 5 people (and 4 night staff) its in an "Operations" area, which is a bit of a change, as I have been an assistant financial accountant the last 2 years, I'm a bit nervous about the team leading part... I think I'll be ok at picking up the work and the day job so to speak, but I've never had to manage anyone before, and most of the people in the team are older than me (I'm 26)... I guess I'll get by, and the only way up is normally into management... but yeah, I have a few butterflies!

Congrats! Just keep in mind that your relationships with these people might change. You have to take on a whole different role when managing people. I hope you were'nt too close to them. Good luck!

Things seem to be going your way. Don't sweat the butterfly thing...that's normal. You'll do fine. If your bosses didn't think that you could do it, then they wouldn't have put you in this position.

Unfortunately...stonegrody, up there, knows of which he speaks. You cannot manage friends. Remember that asshole supervisor that you and your friends used to make fun of? Well, guess what. Now you're that asshole supervisor. Life's funny that way.

No, I dont work with any of the people now that I'll now be managing, because Im moving departments. Before now I've always done project work and kind of worked on my own, or been responsible on my own for certain things... I ran a small subidary company day to day (which turns a profit of about $30,000) before this, and also looked after cashbook and sales and purchase ledger postings. I will have some new stuff to learn, but Im pretty confident I can do it, its more the "managing people" stuff Im nervous about... I guess I'll cope somehow or other though!

I do feel that this came at the right time for me though. I mean, I could have coped intellectually with more complex stuff at 22, but I probably had to grow up a bit before I could take the step up.
