Quit smoking
 
So I just quit smoking about a week ago. Part of my new get healthy plan. I have smoked for approx 5 years, I am just curious to anyone who has quit- how long does it take for your lungs and body to notice a difference and feel good when exercising??

congratulations, first of all.

A great way to feel better immediately is visit a sauna. Always soothing and healing to the lungs.

I'd say about 1 1/2. Then you will notice a good change.

Just stick with it. This is the one thing you can do for yourself that will have the greatest impact on your life.

The most "fun" way to tell is to swim. See how long you can keep yourself deep under the water, as days/weeks go by, you'll notice a HUGE difference. Well, it was fun for me anyway ;)

Oh yeah, sorry about that. Well for me, i smoked as long as Didda, so i was in bad shape. To notice a difference(especially jogging), it took about 1 1/2 years. That was just me though. But its definitely not a fast process.

I started noticing differences almost immediately. Right off the bat, you'll notice food tastes better. I started noticing an improvement in my breathing during cardio excercises in less than a week.
I remember reading somewhere that within 3 years of non-smoking, your body is repaired to the point that it's as though you've never smoked. I could be wrong on this though, and I can't rememebr where I read this (or if that's what I read).

Either way, congratulations and try to remember all the good your doing for your body when a nic-fit hits.

Congrats. My girlfriend has been smoke free for over 3 weeks now. She had gradually weeded herself off them over a couple of months. Chuppachups help. You get the oral satisfaction and the habit of something in your mouth and hand without the cigerette. As someone who is extremely antismoking I think what your doing is awsome. You will probably find alot more people will want to talk to you because you wont smell like an ashtray anymore. Theres nothing to it but to do it and if you want it bad enough you can do it.

i can't tell you how long it took but i do remember that almost immediately my chest stopped hurting in the mornings and the coughing stopped about a month into it. i will say to keep the exercising up because you will supplement the cigarettes for other things (i.e. food) good luck! stay mentally strong because it is going to take a while for the cravings to stop.

If you should ever feel the urge to smoke one of those cancer sticks again I will gladly help you through the Nancy-treatment. It's quite simple really: if you start smoking again a girl named Nancy will come by and kick your ass :D
