will doin this after lifting have a negative affect?
Hey guys, I was curious if swimming after weight lifting would reduce the affect of the gaining muscle part. My thinkin is that it does cause it's some real intense cardio. Im on a program (swim team) and sorta am question if this is really 100% affective. If it only affects the strength / muscle gain by a tad, then its no biggie but if its like 30 percent less gain from the lifting and its just a waste. then well =/ All advice welcomed :P
Thanks guys Chuckles |

Now that I've said that, I don't think that swimming after lifting will affect your mucle gain at all, and in fact, I believe that it could probably only help figuring it's also a resistence excercise. I'm not too sure, but I don't think I've ever heard that doing cardio, even after lifting, will lower you muscle gain in any way. |
Just make sure to get a solid post workout meal (high protein, preferebly whey, and carbs) between the weights and cardio session otherwise you are going to be burning your muscle away.

yea thats the thing tho, they are back to back. Liftin from 4:30-usually around 6 then swimmin for 2hours or so

Your workout is based around your swim team (I assume). That's the key, not doing the swimming as cardio, per se. Plan9 is right with getting a meal in between, even if it is a postworkout shake. The diference with your workout is it doesn't sound like it is to gain muscle or lose weight, it seems more for your sport. You have to measure your gains in the pool and see if your current workout/swimming is helping or hurting your progress.
