Antidepressant Medication

Greetings Everyone! I have a quick question for those of you on ant-depressants. I have been on several and one of the side-effects from all of them has been drowsiness. I am just wondering if anyone on these meds has a novel remedy to help combat this pervasive sleepiness. I have tried the coffee and candy in the afternoon and such but that doesn’t always help. Does anyone have any suggestions? Much, much appreciated. Thanks

So that's why I crash out in the afternoons!

I take Zoloft and haven't experienced the drowsiness. I do get up and walk around for 15-20 minutes or so, after lunch, just to keep myself active.

Do you have a desk job? If so, get away from the computer and/or desk and take a walk somewhere. Combined with the caffeine and sugar, that may help. You might also want to try stretching.

Maybe you haven't tried the correct meds. Antidepressants can be sedating(paxil), more or less neutral(celexa, lexapro) or energizing(prozac, zoloft, effexor). The type prescribed is usually used to control any co-morbidities(sedating, say, for someone with co-existing anxiety).
Perhaps discussing your problem with your doc can get you a more appropriate medication. The new effexor XR which increases norepinephrine levels as well as serotonin levels may be a good fit for you.
