How many pairs of underwear should the average person have?
 

Currently I have over a weeks worth of boxers. I'm moving out of my parent's house soon and plan on getting more. So I was curious how many do you own? What's a safe number to have?

I don't think it really matters...As long as you always have a clean pair to put on.

I only have 5 boxer shorts, I just make sure that i always have atleast 2 or 3 clean...I always wash my boxers, socks and towels more than my pants & shirts. I can wear my clothes more than once...But I won't wear boxers more than once or socks.

Now that I've got that out of the way, I would say at least two weeks worth. 15 to 20 pairs I would say.

Less if you're single or don't expect to score often and don't care wearing raggedy old pairs...

What I meant was that when I was going out clubbing and dancing, picking up chicks etc, I would more often change my clothes more than once a day.

So, you could easily go out 4 or 5 times a week. That means at least 10 pairs if you just want to stay clean. You're not going to put on the same jocks after a shower, are you?!

I have about 10-15 lying around in the drawer. I just wear the first one I can get my hand on (which would be the last one I put in there), so I havent had to dig too deep into my reserves. I'm sure that some of them in the back are not in very good condition.

i've got 3-4 weeks worth of clean drawers. make sure i never run out cuz you never know when you get into a near-fatal car accident and the nurse has to cut off your pants and lo-and-behold, crusty drawers. i even keep a clean back-up pair in my glove compartment :)

College students in dorms: As many as will fit

Undershirts, underwear, and socks are the only things I don't recycle here at college. Laundry gets expensive!

If they start to get raggady, I will throw them in the garbage. I don't know what the price of boxers are where you live...But here, They are damn expensive....For a pair of boxers. I still buy them...But i am not gonna go out and stock up on them.

Take the maximum number of uses you get out of your jeans, have a clean pair of boxers for each use of a pair of pants.

I think I'm somewhat typical of lazy college students: I buy clothes according to what is currently restricting my time between laundry runs. I wear shorts and jeans many times between washes, shirts 2 or 3 times, and undies and socks once or twice. I therefore have 4 or 5 pairs of shorts, the same of jeans, about 15 shirts, and 32 pairs of boxers, so I only need to do the laundry every 4 weeks :)

a lot of girls i know have an obsession with underwear and buying them. including me. i have well over 20 pairs. they gotta be cute :P my friend and i used to always go underwear shopping together before she moved away

Some friends of mine (both from Harvard, incidentally) - one changed his underwear every few months, the other once a week! Bearing in mind they were both heavy-duty sportsmen and trained in them too; you can imagine the smell in the changing rooms. Mmmmmm...

I'd say I've got around 30-40 pairs. I just can't seem to throw them out. Hmm... its high time I go through my drawers and closets.

At least enough to change daily, but I'd say you'll be good with at least 15 if not more.

Add up the number of days between doing laundry.
Add 1.
If you have to leave your place of residence in order to do laundry, add 5 more, just in case.

it depends on how big you like the dirty clothes pile to be. If your going to be living in a dorm or someplace where the pile can only get so big before it won't fit in the washing machine, then you don't need as many. If you have a super duper sized washer, get more... you'll need them. :)

Exactly. I have about 20 pairs myself. And a few "new" ones that I happened opened or used yet. Same with socks really.

I'd say anywhere on 10-20 pairs would be sufficient. If you wear dirty drawls you either don't wash your clothes enough or don't have enough of 'em. Good luck with the underwear adventure.

Seven, one for each day of the week.

1 pair of boxer briefs for every day of the week, and 1 pair of boxer shorts for every day of the week...which one i pick depends on my mood. plus i'm lazy with my laundry

Now that I live on my own, I have enough to go an entire month without doing laundry.

Having a washer at home is quite a luxury, but I still have about 15 pair.

I've got enough for 2 weeks because at college, I do my wash every other week. That way I never run of out stuff. The laundry machines here are very expensive anyways.

IC3's right, boxers can get expensive, but a few months ago I came across a bin of boxers marked down to $1.99 from $12.99 at some store. So I spent about 20 bucks grabbing every large pair I could find. I've got about 12-15 pairs right now, but since I do laundry pretty much weekly, I've got more than enough.

Okay I don't have but one pair and that's for when I wear a dress! Other than that I don't wear Undies!! My girls however have 40 pair a piece! I always replace the ones that get holy!! And I have three girls so that is like 120 pair of children's underwear!!

:) I used to have one for every day of the month... :) and then ones for dressing up... i.e. silk boxers for dressing occassions... now I have about 20 pairs...

i don't think it really matters, does it? i mean, i have more than three dozen, i think. you should just make sure you have enough room!!

I have about a months worth. Though, I dont know why, I keep crappy underwear that dont fit right or are old. I just hate throwing away things. I am moving soon, so I guess I should look them over.

Never have seen much point in underware.

That's a leftover habit of mine from the old Air Force days. I used to work 3 day shifts, 3 night shifts and then get 3 days off. One of those days off was always "laundry day". That, and my tighty whities come in packages of three. :)

I just don't get it. Seriously...I don't get it. Why? WHYYYYYY? It's UNDERWEAR for God's sake. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's nice to see a girl in underwear and there are lots of different possibilities, but it is still UNDERWEAR. Imagine if one took all the money they wasted on pairs of underwear they don't need and saved it up. Oh the things that could be done ;)

No doubt, you need 14 pairs + 1 emergency pair. That's enough to not have to do the laundry for two weeks (assuming you got enough other clothes) and one extra for emergencies.

I think you should have at least 14. So you can have an "accident" in your boxers once a day.

I heard it's good to own about 14 pairs, this will give you one pair a day for 2 weeks, that'll also give you time to do laundry inbetween. I have tons of drawz, boxers, briefs, boxer briefs etc. Most underwear arn't very expensive unless you get into the Abercrombie, Calvin Klein, Polo and brands like that. Go hit up your local Wal-Mart and get you some Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, something like that, their not very expensive. Some times I like to go commando about twice a week, that cuts down on laundry too, haha.

At least 10 pairs if you do the laundry every week like I do. One for every day, and a few extra pairs just in case you don't have time to wash your clothes.

Depends on how often you want to go to the laundry. If you wash them every night in the sink and hang them up to dry, you could get away with just one pair. But, then you would have to sleep COMMANDO style, so you better have two.

I think I have about 16 pairs...I do laundry every other week and the extra two are a buffer just in case I need them. But like santafe said, its all about how often you want to do laundry...

Wow, I never knew that people put so much thought into this, lol. I don't count my underwear. I don't have to have a reason to have a certain number of pairs. I mean, doesn't that seem a little....anal(no pun intended)?

I go without. Except for somedays, like when I have a doctor's appointment or something. And I'll wear sexy ones for my SO, but other that I can't stand to wear the things.

Wholy crap I have alot of underwear. Thongs like...hmmm probably 30 pairs, and regular probably like 15.

Mostly all the boxerbrief style. best of both worlds.

I like different kind of draws . the amount has to do with all the moods I'm in.

I think variety is the spice of life, and so I have dressy thongs and everyday cotton bikinis, and the drawers that have been desginated for wear during a certain time of the month. *ahem* Yeah, I probably have too many, but it saves time on laundry.

I too started college out with 7 pairs. Wasn't fun to do laundry every week especially when you have a lot of homework.
