I've noticed lately that my jaw seems to be crooked. Besides this I can only open my mouth about an inch and a half. I don't know how far it should open, but this all seems a little weird. I think it's unlikely that it's broken, but it used to make popping sounds often when I would open my mouth. Am I just paranoid? Or is this a problem?

Hey Jeff, I'm a dentist and might be able to help you out.

Did anything happen to make you think that it could be broken? Any trauma at all? If not, it's more likely that your TMJ got dislocated. Does your jaw deviate to one side on opening? Can you close normally?

Go see your dentist, you could develop some big problems if this isn't dealt with.
