Dandruff is kicking my ass.

I use Head and Shoulders daily, well, nightly. I get dry scalp etc. Any suggestions on how to deal with dandruff will be helpfull.

If you like to use Head & Shoulders, try H&S Intensive Treatment shampoo. It comes in a dark blue bottle and has 1% selenium sulfide to help prevent itching, scaling, irritation and redness associated with dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. It might help you.

Well, I'm willing to try something other than H&S if it will help, as the stuff I'm using now isn't. Don't think I'm not willing to change. I may try that however, thanks.

Hmmm. While I might be thinking too hard here, but whats the point of having a regular H&S if this one is better? The same goes with Excedrin EXTRA STRENGTH etc. How do I know which one to get if I go buy something for the first time? Is my condition bad enough for the Super Series? Is it mild enough for the normal series? Seems like a marketing ploy to me.

Seltzen Blue has always worked well for me. Get the green-topped bottle, though. The others smell na-ha-asty.

do you use conditioner a lot? if so, stop using it for a while and see if it goes down. Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner might work as well.

What is dandruff? Is it just dead skin? Or is it something else?

I have heard that changing shampoos can help keep dandruff on the run. So, maybe you could try a different one for a while, then go back to H&S.

Head and Shoulders did not work for me. I use Nuetrogene TGell during the week, and use Denorex weekly. Denorex is strong stuff, it's basically liquid coal. It smells, so dont use it then plan to go to work. But it ALWAYS works.

T-Gel works real good.
But for an inexpensive way, take a small bowl of olive oil. Dip your fingers in it, and rub your scalp every night for about a week. Let it sit in there and maybe even sleep with it on (make sure you put a towel on your pillow). The next week, do the same thing every other day. The week after that, every couple of days. Then just do it once a week for a couple of months. I did something like that when I had major major dandruff and didn't have problems with dandruff for years.
Also Whenever I had the oil in, I would comb my hair and see all the "dandruff patches" in the comb. That may or may not have anything to do with it.
Trust me, this works.

When i am at school I have dandruff. I guess its something to do with the weather and water up here, so I have a three shampoo approach.

Day 1 - Head and Shoulders
Day 2 - Paul Mitchell Shampoo One
Day 3 - Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo

Go see a doctor. You might have psoriasis on your scalp or something worse than just dandruff.

Get a bunch fo strong dandruff shampoos and rotate them like everyone else here. I use Head and Shoulders, then i use Nuetragena T-Sal; then a regular shampoo

I have to agree with jeenyus. Go see a dermatologist before you go blowing a bunch of money on a lot of different products that have no garantee to work.

This might be kind of obvious, but make sure you really scrub when you wash and rinse your hair.

Sometimes I'll get lazy and not really scrub my head and I'll get build up...

For severe dandruff, most docs will give you Nizoral 2% shampoo(prescription). But you can get 1% nizoral shampoo over the counter. Save yourself a copay- try the Nizoral first before seeing the doc.

Nutrogena T-Gel. Maximum Strength. I've had psorasis (sp?) and dry scalp/dandruff since I was 12.

It's the only thing that keeps the flakes away for me.

Rub Jojoba oil on your scalp and leave in while you shower. Before you get out rinse the oil out. This should moisturize your scalp.

Go to dermatologist, like others already said. I have psoriasis and would have never figured it out without seeing a good doctor.

Hairdressers have never been of any help, they believe whatever crap the product consults are feeding them. You could have yeast infection in your head causing this to which Nizoral might help or psoriasis or some other chronical thing that needs light treatment and cortison etc. The doc will save you lots of time telling you what the problem is exactly and how to treat it.

I used to have that problem, but I switched to Herbal Essences Intensive Blend. Its like gold for your hair man. After the first wash it was 10 times better and all the dandruff was gone.
