Long Distance Relationship Advice

I've been with my girlfriend for more than 14 months now, but she is getting out of the Air Force and going back home to Maine and going to college (leaving me in Colorado). we are still very much in love and want to and stick with the relationship. any advice TFP can give me? is it irrational for me to want to buy a push-knife and some pepperspray for her protection at college? should i be worried about her finding some other dude?

It depends on how old those involved are, I've found. Is she over or under 25? Under 25, all bets are off. Over 25, the odds of a breakup diminish, largely because most people on college campuses are under 25, and those of us who are over 25 on college campuses think the rest of the student body are irresponsible assholes.

I'm usually not like this, but if I have to write another original and witty response to a "Got a long distance relationship, oh no, what should I do?" thread I'm going to start replying in American Psycho quotes and including pictures of random war crimes photoshopped to include party balloons and streamers. Running out of steam here, guys.

Can I make you feel better by posting a thread about my husband sitting at another computer further than 8 m from me. When and if I get a sudden urge to punch him, should I get up myself and walk the distance or ask him to come a bit closer?

Any advice you can offer?
