Eye Goop

Greetings All,
'Tis allergy season again and I suffer mightily from them. I have noticed during allergy seasons past that there is always "eye goop" in the corners of my eyes. My eyes itch constantly during allergy season. So the question is: is the eye goop the culprit or just my body's reaction to the allergies and just a harmless sideeffect? Thanks for any info.

Fortunately, I don't suffer from allergies. (no sneezing, wheezing, etc). However, this time of the year, I do tend to wake up with a little eye goop in the corners of my eyes. It's never significant... However, taking a Benadryl decongestant pill before bed seems to do the trick... no goop or bloodshot eyes in the morning. Give it a try for a few days and maybe this will do the trick for you too.

I wear corrective contact lenses at night (meaning I put them in, go to sleep, take them out and can see in the morning), and I notice that if they are irritating me before I go to sleep I produce much more of this "goop". I think it is a defense against irritation, not the cause of it.

Try using Visine Allergy relief. Worked for me.

I think the eye goop comes from when your eye is itching at night, it gets watery and then it sort of dries and collects in the corners of your eye. I have allergies to pollen and i am starting to get eye goop in the mornings too. Sometimes when I have been itching my eyes a lot before i go to bed, i wake up in the morning with my eyelids glued shut with dried eye goop, and I have to pull them apart with my fingers ....lol

Your eyes are making sticky goop to clean themselves. They want the goop to stick to the irritants, dry up and sluff off/get wiped away.

Don't believe me? Just ask your eyeballs.

Yeah, it's kinda your eyes' way of cleaning themselves...so that goop is in the corner of your eyes, instead of the pupil or something (eww...)
