Post wisdom-tooth extraction issue...

Yes, I know I should call my dentist. Yes, I know very few of our members are actually dentists. Yes, I know most of you are not qualified to comment on this. Yes, I am calling my surgeon in the morning to ask this very question.

Now, having gotten that out of the way...

I had my wisdom teeth taken out last Monday, and the past 2 days there has been a terrible taste in my mouth. I know bad taste/breath is a sign of dry socket, but the pain is getting a little better every day...not worse. Hubby told me this same thing happened to him...nasty taste in the mouth while everything healed. Basically...did this happen to anyone here and everything turned out fine? I'm not particularly worried about dry socket or infection...the taste is just so bad that it's almost nauseating.

I definitely didn't get any weird tastes. I did get dry socket though and the pain got worse over the first week instead of better. Are you sure the taste you're getting isn't blood? Or blood mixed with food particles?

It's not just blood...but I guess it could be blood mixed with food. Ew.

I had my wisdom teeth taken out last fall, I remember a not so pleasant taste associated with them healing. I was also paranoid about getting dry socket, which apparently if you get it you will definitely know somethings wrong. The taste went away after a week or so. I was pretty careful with brushing my teeth, making sure to brush my tongue thoroughly too.

It is pretty easy to get food lodged in the wounds - my dentist recommended swirling warm salty water in my mouth for a few days afterwards - not too roughly, but enough to dislodge anything foreign...

I had a pretty bad taste and a fair amount of pain over a week after I had them removed.... wasnt dry socket in my case, just a mild infection.

We have a winner!

I went in this morning and sure enough...I have a mild infection as well. They put some medicinal gauze in the extraction site and my mouth has tasted .... clove-y ever since. An improvement for sure!
