Teacher's gifts

Hey all,
How much is the norm for spending on gifts for each teacher of your kids in school?
My child's in preschool (not that it makes a difference, lol), so what would be the average cost I should spend on each gift for his teachers, nurse and family advocates?
Thx

I'm a teacher... spend $2-3 TOPS! better yet... make some silly ornaments with your kiddo and hand those out (I have a lot of those on my tree)... food is ...nice... but I have 3 gift bags full of candies, chocolate, and baked goods sitting on top of the piano that I will likely throw away post-holiday.... I'll let the guests have a graze at them first

oh... my all time fave is a student who made magnetted/decorated clothespins for the fridge... those ROCK!

a gift for a preschool teacher? a bottle of booze or a bottle of aspirin. or both, they need it.

$10--max.

Things I need coming into contact with kids frequently: pocket Kleenex, and tiny bottles of Purell. Cute things the kids themselves made are also a winner, and food is ALWAYS welcome.

Our daughter has 4 teachers who take care of her at pre-school - we gave each a $25 gift card.

They look after her 4 days a week and do a tremendous job - spending a few bucks to reward them once a year is the least we can do.

My wife gets some amazing gifts from her kids (read: kids parents) and they are definitely spending over $10.

That said, I agree with highthief on this...

I will third what highthief said. My wife gets a wide variety of things; it seems the gift cards (especially to bookstores and coffee shops) are the most suitable.

My mom has been a teacher for over 30 years, and she used to work in a comfortable middle class neighborhood - the gifts for a while were nothing short of envious - I at least demanded to be allowed on the shopping trips.

She always preferred the things that took a little thought - our house has a never ending supply of bath gel/lotion - great regiftings.

Do not give gifts to a public servant, it is highly unethical. It is considered bribery and encourages corruption. Giving gifts to teachers also unfairly gives wealthier families an edge over poorer students.

It takes more than an expensive gift to make a straight-A preschooler....
