Down The Stairs
Wow. Okay, new threads should always be created by my misfortune:
What is the biggest / most expensive / weirdest thing you've ever accidentally let roll down the stairs at home / work? ... This should be good. |
Myself when I was seven, from the top step, face forward, down a whole flight of wooden stairs. Bruises like whoa, but nothing broken. Also, it was much more of a 'three involuntary summersaults' action, than the face-down body surfing action you'd expect it to be.

my son... he rolled down his grandmother's stairs when he was about 18 months old. as my wife ran in the other direction i leapt down and reached the bottom just as he rolled to a stop. he was fine. i was not.

Washing machine. But then, it was a piece of shit, so no big loss. Our neighbors ALL came out for a look after that.....
|
my younger sister trapped inside her toy box. No wait, you said accidentally... nevermind..

Me. Eighth grade class trip to th Natural History Museum in NY. Cute boys at the bottom of the staircase. Mary and I waved and headed on down to them.
They weren't there when I stopped tumbling..... Pride hurt a little. Ankle hurt a lot. |
Crompsin, are you gonna answer your own question?? :)
As for me, I lost my pride when I tripped down the stairs of the high school gym risers during a basketball game... when I was a student-teacher. Papers that I had been grading (and me) splayed out everywhere. This happened in front of several of my students. I was 21, they were 18... yeah. |
An upright grand piano. Once we realized it was going we just stepped to the side and watched in disbelief.
The piano didn't make it out alive. The wall at the bottom didn't fair too well either. The stairs had a few gouges but nothing too bad. |

What did you do after that? Was there a witty quote? Please tell me there was. Quote:

I fell down the wooden stairs of a 19th century farmhouse when I was 3. Bruised from head to toe, and then I got the stomach flu the next day and was throwing up so much Mom took me to the hospital--at which point I ceased to vomit. My mom was so embarassed, because I looked like I'd been beaten.
Shortly after that, I pedaled my trike off of the edge of my aunt's patio and straight into a rosebush. That was worse than falling down the stairs. Owww. |
dropped a 600 page annual reports/tax information for a client & their group of companies in the stairwell - it slid between the stairs and fell 16 floors. As it was about to be bound together, it went EVERYWHERE. Kinda nice introduction when you've been on the job 2months.
boy did I feel like an arse that day. Luckily the client has a bit of sense of humour about them, and he still gives it to me everytime we meet. |
Awesome! 600 pages dropping like 50 meters. That makes for some real expletives.

I slipped (it was raining) and bounced all the way down the fire escape stairs outside our office, had a blue butt for a week, but I think it bruised my ego more.
|
I've gone face first , ass first and bad-somersault style down four sets of stairs. Three were carpeted. Luckily, ass-first was on the non-carpeted.
I have terrible balance. |
I don't have a good 'down the stairs' story, maybe because I lived in a one story house from birth until age 27? It certianly isn't because I have great balance or flexibility, because I don't. Maybe its because I KNOW I'll get seriously hurt if I do, sheer fear keeps me from falling.
I have, however, been within earshot of a falling piano. It was in high school and the band's piano (a Steinway baby grand, no less) was being moved from the theatre back to the band room. Not moved by people who knew what they were doing, but by the janitors and football jocks (don't ask why). Anyway, they managed to get on the back of an electric flatbed cart. Sure enough, it was WAY overloaded and after hitting a rather large bump the whole thing flipped, tossing the piano forward straight on its legs, which broke under the weight. The sound is exactly as you might expect it to be, except the crunching legs before the 88-key chord. |
