Save my wedding Teach me to DJ

Long story short: I am getting married in 5 days. My dj just skipped town. I probably won't see my money again and if I do, I'm sure it won't be in time to hire another dj.

Kicker: My florist backed out on me last week.

Anyway, I'm convinced that if I want music, I'll have to do it myself. Given my budget ($0) and my time (4 days), I think using a computer and mp3s will be the fastest way to go.

I'm hoping for any and all advice that anyone can give me on the subject.

Best software... I want to manage a playlist, fade between songs, possibly beatmatch songs, and most importantly be as automated as possible.

Best way to use mic for speeches and announcements. Can I score a mic for $cheap$ that'll be sufficient? Are there certain types of rental places that will work with me?

What type of sound equipment am I looking at here? Any advice on what's needed to set up for a 120' by 120' room?

Thanks a mil all

you find that fucker, and you kick his ass, then sue his ass, then kick his ass again and say it was self defense. THen you go beat your florist.

Does your fiancee know about all this? If not, TELL HER NOW. Otherwise you'll be the high-point of the next "Wedding Disasters" special on Fox.

It's no good for the groom to be the DJ. Speaking as someone who's been a groom: you'll be busy with Groom Stuff. You don't want to be running to handle the tunes every few minutes, no matter how automated you've got it. This is a job for the Best Man. Now, the Best Man shouldn't DO it either; he'll be busy with Best Man stuff. He should find somebody to delegate it to.

I agree with ratbastid - delegate it to someone else. The reality is that the best you can do at this point is have everybody bring in CD's that they like (make sure they're labeled first or Aunt Selma is going to be pissed when her Barry Mantilow CD is missing) and wing it.

A 120' x 120' room is going to take a decent amount of power. You may be able to find something to handle this to rent but it's going to be close. Do you have any friends that are watt-heads? - you know the type - drives a 1983 Datsun pickup with rust holes the size of Kansas but has a stereo system that'll take 15 years to pay off. That's the person to get real friendly with right now.

Good luck and, as said before, make damn sure you tell the wife-to-be NOW!

one of your buddies must have a decent stereo right? make some calls....between you and couple of your friends you should be able to piece together a system and collection of music to keep you grooving all night long.....just don't panic, sit down relax-crack open a brew and call your buddies. guys love to show off stereo gear...one of them will jump at the chance to be the hereo.

thanks so much all for your suggestions. I went back to the phones and made a few more calls and tracked the fuckers down. Hopefully everything will be okay for Sunday. If not, I managed to get a few backups in place. Your advice has really helped. Thanks to all.

You can set winamp to fade out at the end of tracks & in at the start, you can also set & save different playlists. Most audio progs'll do that. If you dont have a pooter with 2 soundcards forget mixing. Even if you had, if you dont know how to mix it would be embarasing.
Alot of Dj stores will rent out the equipment, Decks, mixer etc etc.
If I lived in the same continent I would be happy to do it for free but I dont. so whatyagonna do?

I guess it is WAY too late to offer you any advice, so I'll just say Congratz!!

Only just found this thread so it's too late to say anything other than I hope it all went well and you two had a great day!
