Take screen captures of DVDs
 

In windows media player. I tried turning off the video accelleration and hitting "print screen" then pasting in paint... but it didnt work, and thats what I always used... Now I have no idea.

Thoughts?

use another player, If I remember correctly the Zoom Player can capture a frame (I'm not sure though).

I always used to do the paint thing too, but in WMP it like, shows the movie inside of paint. It's odd.

where in holy hell does PowerDVD save the screen captures to?!? MADDENING

Intervideo's WINDVD has a capture screen icon as well--looks like a camera. Also, you can press "P" to capture a screen, which is a lot easier, in my opinion. you may want to try that in PowerDVD just to see what happens.

By default, it saves them to My Documents.

Keep in mind that most software captures the frame at the mpeg2 resolution of 720x480, which in most cases is not the proper aspect ratio for the picture. You'll have to resize the pic to the DVD's specified aspect ratio to make it look right. For example, if you have a 4:3 DVD, resize the pic to 640x480.

hmm, i looked in my documents... its not in there

try the software irfanview it is simple and can capture anything that is on your pc screen desktop,photos web...you can even set the time to capture..its also free ...ive spoken briefly to the maker and he is really nice

for reference, the problem with trying to take screen caps of video is that video is overlayed. in other words, the video is processed directly by the video card and the put on top of the image after the operating system (which takes the picture) gets its hands on it. so to take a screen cap you need to find a program that:
1) directly access the video card
2) or disables overlay so the OS can take a screen cap
3) or directly accesses the video file
