Cat pee

There is a damn cat that either:

A) keeps pissing on my window
B) pissed on my window once and It soaked in over the winter
C) pissed on my window in an unusual place

I am at my wits' end. I've tried bleach first, then vim then tilex.
I am now going to home depot to get a cat-chaser awaer and some deodorising stuff.

I'm asking for some help getting rid of this horrible smell that emanates throughout my house as soon as I open the door to my games room. There is no way any girl will stick around my place if she smells this horrible stench.

maleficent 06-02-2004 06:14 PM

Is there carpeting? Or are you certain it's coming from the window area?

If it's in the carpeting, especially if it's synthetic carpet, getting rid of the smell is tough.

Febreeze might mask it a little bit.

Scrubbing with Vinegar and water might help if you scrubbed with that.

skier 06-02-2004 06:56 PM

i'm absolutley certain it's from the window. When I open it to let in fresh air cat pee smell fills the room and eventually my house.

Artsemis 06-03-2004 09:02 AM

How long has the smell been there? Can you smell it just outside the window from the outside of the house?

Jim Kata 06-03-2004 11:54 AM

Go mark your territory outside of the window. If there is dirt there, dig it up and put new dirt there and piss away for a week or two. Show that pussy whos turf its on!

james t kirk 06-03-2004 01:41 PM

Odds are that a particular cat has decided that your window is his window.

And he keeps coming back every couple of days to remark his territory.

It's happened at my place too. All you can do is clean the window thoroughly with soap and water to eliminate the smell and air out the house. Hopefully, he forgets about your window and heads somewhere else.

Or get a big dog.

Get a small caliber rifle or airgun and set up a night ambush for it. It might take few all nighters, but you'll get him eventually.

micah67 06-03-2004 06:49 PM

Cat pee glows under black light - get a bulb and shine it around the suspected area(s) until you know where it really is. Then saturate the area with "Nature's Miracle" found at nearly all pet stores. There's an enzyme in that stuff that will help eliminate the unique amonia smell of cat piss.

skier 06-03-2004 08:39 PM

cool guys thanks for the suggesstions! Also I went down to home depot and they told me to pour vinegar or cayenne pepper aroudn the area because it's a way strong smell and the cat won't like it so he'll go away.

gar1976 06-07-2004 09:51 AM

If the cat is peeing outside, hook up a small live wire where the cat pisses. He'll only do it once.

skier 06-07-2004 05:26 PM

oh man, I love suggestions that involve electricity.

i think chickenwire and a large 9 volt battery should do the trick.

MSD 06-08-2004 09:49 AM

A blacklight will find it, vinegar will get rid of it.

Rubyee 06-11-2004 09:42 AM

Sorry dude, it isn't piss. Its other stuff that they mark with- it is much worse smelling than piss. When I lived with my mom, there was a neighborhood tom that would spray our front door! It reeked for weeks, and the smell started to dissapate. It helped, though, that my parents caught the cat in a live cage and took it to the humane shelter. You may want to do that, too.

TheFu 06-16-2004 10:32 PM

There is a product called Natures Miracle that will take care of just about any pet stain smell. Piss, poop, vomit. It uses enzymes to break stuff down. You can get it and similar products at pet stores like Pet Smart. The first time I bought some the chick at the store told me it takes blood stains out of clothing as well. Haven't tried that yet though.

Jim Kata 06-18-2004 09:19 AM

Just got some Nature's Miracle and it helps out big time. They say it takes 2 weeks for it to fully work so I gotta wait one more week. But the smell is almost totally gone. Good stuff!

Acetylene 06-30-2004 10:59 AM

You need an enzymatic cleaner like the ones used for housebreaking. That will remove the smell of urine, and hopefully the cat will find a new place, since it's the smell that tells the cat this is his litterbox.

Those suggestions are mean, and although the second one is kind of funny, I don't reccomend either of them. I think you did the right thing by getting the Nature's Miracle.

Also, if you're in a city, I would go to either a gardening or hunting staore and get a bottle of predator urine (bobcat, coyote, etc.) and put that around the area you found w/ the blacklight. No sane small animal will smell predator psis oand stick around. It won't smell, and that cat fucker won't come around anymore.

Psshaw. If you've ever trained a pet, you realize there is some pain involved, be it physical or emotional (yelling or scolding). Just cutting to the chase and saving the guy some time. Shouldn't kill the cat, just will scare the, well, piss out of him.

Edit: Although I would tag it with a BB gun (which shouldn't kill it, depending on where you hit it), I would not shoot it with an air rifle.

Averett 07-13-2004 10:38 AM

Will Natures Miracle work on oldish stains? My kitten doesn't like when I don't clean his cat box after he's gone in it a few times... So he goes outside sometimes :( And there are a couple of small blood stains on a chair of mine from about a week ago. Will it work?

Jim Kata 07-14-2004 07:05 AM

Not really sure, I'm sure if you go to Petco or whatever you have around there, they will let you know. Cause if its in there for a loong time, it may be too late. But they will know better than me.
And I'm not really sure Nature's Miracle will work for blood stains. I think its strictly a urine thing. But like I said, they will know better than me.

Averett 07-14-2004 07:31 AM

Thanks Jim :)

I actually have some stuff at home, I forget what it is, general pet stain remover I think. Sprayed that on my chair and it seemed to work pretty well.

Probably, apply enough to be wet and don't dab it up. Let the stuff work until the fabric is dry. If you have to reapply try to work it in with a nail brush.

Usually you need one application for pee but I've used it on old, dry cat vomit stains and after three of four applications the stain was gone.

Great stuff... it's enzyme-based thus the reason you need to leave it wet and let it work... it takes time.

toverfie 10-18-2004 12:26 PM

Thanks for the tips on natures miracle....we will be buying some tonight!!!!!!

Glory's Sun 10-18-2004 12:33 PM

Uugh Cat Piss is the worst smell on the planet. I'd say the only way to get rid of said smell is to either A) Shoot the cat B) Get rid of funiture or C) both. Now for the window..that's a little more complicated to replace so I'd say option A is the best. Of course option A is always best when cats are involved.

xwesleyx 10-18-2004 04:29 PM

Call me when you buy a house that had 30+ cats inside at all times.

There is no amount of Nature's Miracle to whisk that stench away.
