How to clean leather

I've looked around the net, and apparently you need a special sort of cleaner to clean leather. Best deal I've found is $6 for a 12oz can of the stuff. Can anyone recommend anything for me?

What I'm trying to clean is a leather jacket. Everyone says to use the cleaner, sure, great, but can I put the jacket in the washing machine?

thanks

ha ha, dont advise the washing machine, will ruin it.

Use Saddle Soap and a soft rag, then a leather conditioner.
You can find saddle soap at grocery stores or shoe stores. Murphys oil will work too, but not sure if it will affect the finish.

You should also look at the Lexol line of cleaners and conditioners.

The stuff I used was a spray , pretty much all you do is hang the jacket on a hanger spray it down let it dry and it should protect it from rain and if you get anything on it you should beable to just spot wipe it with a damp cloth. If you are still unsure I would just take to the dry cleaners and ask them to clean it or call a leather shop and ask them what they would recommend.
