yardwork tip

have you got weeds/grasses growing in the cracks in your sidewalk/patio/driveway/etc?

want to know a good way to get em out (besides picking them)?

an angle grinder

thats how I spent part of my afternoon (about an hour - LOTS of neglected weeds around here)

tomorrow I put down fresh tar in the cracks to keep em from coming back

Ooh!
Great idea!
I've got some fiber(of some sort) bristle wheels, too, so the grinder won't bounce so hard offa the concrete.

Now, if I can figger out how to attache my grinder to a stick, so I don't have to lean over so much....

propane or butane. burn the suckers (don't touch them directly). IF they are green they will die.

the reasons I used the angle grinder are as follows:

1. I had it laying around. And as Big Julie mentioned, I have the fiber cutting discs that dont affect the concrete.

1a. I like using power tools, but dont have a weed-eater. The cheap POS electric one I had died while I was trimming the house the day before.

2. I did NOT want to pull them up by hand.

3. I have a kid and pets, so I dont like to use chemicals if I can avoid it. Besides, that Roundup shit is expensive.

4. I'm cheap.

5. I DO have a propane torch, but you cant use it upside down, as would be necessary to burn the buggers. Someone does make a torch extension (an inverted J shape) that allows you to a) not have to bend over and b) keep the torch upright so it will stay lit. But I dont have one (my dad does though, cool idea) and see #4.

6. End result, the angle grinder was the quickest way to get rid of them. Cut the bastards off nice and even.

Roundup always works fine here...I've heard that rock salt would keep anything from growin there in the future but haven't tried it.
