What tiny bugs are these?

Sorry, no pic. Too small. They're barely visible, I can only see them on white paper and such. In fact they seemed to be attracted to it. There were 100s of them on a stack of papers. Fairly fast for their size. Light brown. Kind of look like super small versions of potatoe bugs or super small roaches. Not sure exactly, as like I said, quite small.

Google turned up spider mites, but they don't seem like they look like em, but I'm no expert. Any ideas?

Could be thrips, but it's kind of hard to tell from your description. Did they fly?

Zeraph 05-19-2010 01:35 PM

No they didn't fly. They could jump a bit though, not very high mind you.

If you can't photo, perhaps you could draw a picture?

Zeraph 06-10-2010 10:27 AM

I couldn't draw a good picture. It'd just look like an oval with legs. One more fact though. they seem to only come out at night. During the day I think they are burrowed under my carpet. They also don't actually seem to be attracted to the paper, I think that's just where I see them easily. I also haven't noticed them jump anymore, starting to wonder if I imagined that.

Possibly mites or fleas or nats?

ring 06-10-2010 11:43 AM

They could be book lice.

Jinn 06-10-2010 11:48 AM

Sounds like you're describing fleas..

What? No crabs joke?

Zeraph 06-10-2010 12:45 PM

Hmm I'm leaning toward book lice. It says they can feed on glue or just about anything. That would fit with my carpet I'd think. Doesn't carpet have some kind of glue?

They also so far look the most similar to an overhead/realistic pic I found (the closeups aren't realistic, I don't have a microscope...)

Here it is

Woot! finally figured it out after all this time. They are Chinch bugs. They feed on plants, but there's so many of them (20 eggs a day for a month) that they always end up starving and look for food elsewhere. So you can get them through the small cracks in your window sometimes.

I've had chinch bugs eating my lawn for years, and those sir, are no chinch bugs...
Chinch bugs are
Big enough for you to see and recognize body parts... I'd say maybe a quarter inch or so?
They hop... And fly...

Not when they're babies. I had a professional come over. I'm pretty sure they're chinch bugs. Also keep in mind that that picture is not of them, just what I thought looked closest. They may not be that small.
