How can I hang a flag on a wall without hurting the flag?

Hello
I bought me a flag of my country and I want to hang it on the wall next to my bed. I need to know how I can go about hanging it on the wall without hurting it. Any ideas?

I used hooks to hang a hockey team's flag in my son's room. Like this:

His flag has a hole like this on each side. Does your flag have something like that?

if you have no hooks try framing it like a picture, the glass or plastic front should keep it from falling and it will stay dust free and shouldnt fade

You could also get some adhesive clips to put on your wall, and just clamp the flag material in them.

3M makes some good ones, but I'm not sure show big your flag is.

well firstly, flags dont have feelings, so u cant really 'hurt' them, but u can damage them though.

ok enough sarcasm...

thread a needle and string through it and hang it on some wall hangers on the wall.

It's just a piece of cloth with some specifically placed bits of colour... use staples.

Of course, you could just erect a flag pole in your room. Just remember the flag has to come down at sundown... no exceptions. And if it touches the ground you have to burn it.

How about a little clamp like a binder clip and tack that to the wall?

I'm still for tacks. They look like it's a real personal thing and if you match the flag color to the tack color you can't even tell how it's being held up. Kinda.

If you are really worried, put it in a frame. Then hang the frame.

IKEA sells frames cheap.

Another option would be double-sided tape. It comes in surprisingly strong varieties.

Well, if it's a flag that's meant to go on a flag pole, then put a dowel through the slip, and hang it perpendicular to the way you would normally see it on the flag pole.

or hang a midget on a trapiese on your wall, and make him hold the flag.

What a great example of how prolific TFP is. I did a search for "how to hang a flag on a wall" and this was the third result Who needs Google when you have TFP?!

Incidentally, thanks pig - just the idea I needed.

Just remember that you have to feed the midget regularly.

Those are rules for the US flag, something tells me Undercover Man has something other than that. Also, if the US Flag is iluminated it can fly after dark and in the rain (weather proof flag).

Drive a pair of stainless steel roofing nails into plastic anchors on the wall, attach the flag to those with disc-shaped neodymium magnets.

In museums, they stitch flags or tapestries to a neutral backing and then hang that up.

Although I'm certain that we've had this conversation before, I'm gonna have another go of it. Yes, a flag is made of cloth. But it's not the "cloth" to which you are showing respect. It's the symbolism behind those specifically placed bits of color that seperates a flag from a common washcloth.
Also;
A.) the flag does not have to come down at sundown, provided that it is properly illuminated.
And;
B.) A flag does not have to be burned if it touches the ground. It can be laundered. It does, however, have to be "retired" (burned) when it becomes too faded, soiled, or torn to be serviceable.

Just replace a sheetrock panel with some sheetmetal; paint it and use magnets.

I used to work in an office that had metal in the walls (covered by wallpaper) - we used magnets all the time to hold up drawings, etc.
Sure made for some crappy cell phone reception, though . . . .

I use carpet tack strips (like tacks driven through a wooden yardstick so the sharp points stick out of one side) for hanging rugs and tapestries on the wall. Nail or screw the strips to the wall with the sharp ends tilted up. Then carefully align the upper edge of the flag (or whatever) so the tacks poke through the material. It's as strong as nailing a rug to the wall and easy to remove or realign the run. You can get the strips from any carpet store or service that does carpet installations.

My family has a long military history from two countries. Everybody in either side I've ever asked this has looked at me funny and offered me a handful of thumbtacks.

You're not defacing it, you're just hanging it up. Most flags are also woven such that you can just the tack (or even a finishing nail) to push the threads aside rather than pierce them. If you really care THAT much then follow the flag code and hang it vertically using the holes already on it.
