PHP (BBS) for dummies? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

I want to make a board for some friends and I for an online game (Star Wars Galaxies) kind of like this one. We are getting web space and I have some experience (college classes 6 years ago) on basic web design and stuff. I am pretty confident I can handle it just not sure how to do it. Anyone got any links to some tutorials or can give me a run down here on how to set one up?

This board is using vBulletin. You can purchase a license here. There are also some good documentation on how to set up your server on their site.

One that I would recommend is Invision Power Board. It was made by the creator of Ikon Board, Matt. I prefer it over vB for many reasons. Check out http://www.ibforums.com/switch/ as well.

yeah, there is no reason to re-invent the wheel

I'm personaly a fan of "drupal" which you can find on freashmeat.

If you want I can post some basic forum code that my freind who enjoys reinventing the wheel wrote.

If you dont want to pay try yabb. It has a ton of mods and a very active development community.

craploads of sites are now using phpBB because it's free, easy to set up and maintain, and has a huge userbase of people making mods for it.
