desires unfulfilled

Your average priest or minister will tell you that, upon marriage, a couple become one soul. A pleasant sentiment and maybe it's true on a spiritual level... But we remain individuals with our own desires and needs. Sure, we make compromises and that's all fine. But, now and then, there's something you remember liking that your mate doesn't really care for - maybe she just hasn't tried it.

I've been feeling that way for quite a while. To give my wife credit, I han not been able to indulge in this particular hunger even during my previous marriage, at least not since my first child was born (something about it being bad for young kids). And I'm not saying it's something I want all the time. But doesn't everyone want something a little different now and then??

Last week, I finally spoke up. When I first told her, she just got this puzzled look on her face as if I'd suggested buying Skippy peanut butter instead of Jiff (and that's a whole other story ). I just told my other half what it was I wanted and that it was something she didn't have to share with me. But I just wanted her to understand (or maybe respect) what it was I wanted.

Maybe I was being selfish?


Now our cupboard contains a 28oz jar of crunchy peanut butter.
