FYI: PSP + Water

Here's a little story about a recent mishappening with my PSP. As I was travelling I had a water bottle come open inside my bag and submerse my PSP in water while in standby mode.

Needless to say I was pissed!

I know that you aren't supposed to try and power on electronics while they are wet so I decided I would dry it off before I saw how extensive the damage was. After a day out on the counter, I found the PSP bone dry, and tried the power switch. No love.

I decided to try charging the battery, and I plugged the PSP in. The orange light came on, and I felt a tiny, tiny, tiny bit better.

After leaving the PSP plugged in overnight I found that the orange light was still on in the morning. I assumed that the PSP was really messed, but I tried to turn it on anyway.

BINGO!

Fired right up, everything still on the memory stick, and able to perform any function I had used it for previously. I swapped batteries with a friend, and it worked as well. So the only thing the water did was cook my battery.

You'd be surprised how many things will still work when you get them wet.
I dropped my mobile in the toilet a while back! It didn't do a thing. To the phone anyway!

Heh. My best friend once went surfing with his cell phone. Whoops. One time he also dropped it in a puddle. And we're not talking a tiny puddle.

The guy has gotten his phone wet so many times we're suprised it's still alive.

It's the phone that just won't die.

I was visiting some people on a boat a few years back and they wanted me to bring my N64 with me to occupy their kids for a few hours while we were out. So I brought it up in a plastic bag with 4 controllers, about 20 games. memory cards, and rumble packs.

So on my way down the dock I turned onto their slip and stepped in goose poop and lost my footing because it was slippery. Needless to say the whole bag with all the N64 stuff in it fell into Lake Ontario. Ever so pissed I was suprised to learn that the N64 in the bag and all the games and memory cards floated. The controllers and rumble packs didnt but there was enough boyancy to keep the bag afloat.

So I pulled it out of the lake and set it outside to dry for like 20min when one of the kids spotted it and hooked it up without my concest. When I got back they said that they have played every game and had no problems with anything.

After I told this story to a friend of mine, he said that if you ever get electronics wet, disconnect the power, and rinse with distilled/filtered water. Allow to air dry and you should be good.

As long as you don't fry anything by short-circuiting the thing, you'll be right with water. Not to mention pure water is an extremely poor conductor. You should be fine as long as nothing's making a bridge between two points, indeed, anything short of seawater is usually mendable.

didn't work for my calculator

it gave me wrong answers :\ which screwed up my homework about 2 years back..

I got it figured out later and had to stash it away so that I don't bring it to exams

well, not to be a party pooper, but for $300 US, i'd better be able to smash it with a sledgehammer and it work. But still, that is pretty cool.

I'd already flushed when I dropped it! I was more worried about the sim card than the phone!

I once spilled an entire cup of water inside my tower.

Eventually, it just started to work again and I've had no problems since.
