xbox 360 premieres on MTV
so the 360 has premiered!
the games look amazing! the console looks great! the controllers look like they stuck to a formula that worked overall im impressed the changable face plates seem kinda silly what do you guys think? there is also a play by play of the program on my site battlemouth.com play by play |
after putting some deeper thought into the program
it all seemed so painfully scripted additionally they were quite careful not to give out any real juicy info what was with the xbox being in a messenger bag? also it seemed very sociologically planned that they covered both genders and all ethnicities during their "death match" way to cover all the bases microsoft! |
I agree with pretty much every point you made. The face plates are really silly. I'm not a huge fan of how the console looks, and while wireless controllers will be nice, will they be rechargable on some sort of dock or will I have to keep buying batteries? (I'm sure it'll probably be the latter.) The games do look very nice, though.
As for the "show"...I hated it. It was, as you said, entirely too scripted and boring. On the upside, though, The Killers are pretty damn good live. |
i tuned in... even bothered to TIVO the thing.
however, i was very underwhelmed. i certainly expected all the corporate propaganda, but i was disappointed with the quality of the production and how they debuted the console. strictly speaking about the console itself... it seemed like a decent machine, though i don't think the production did a very good job of marketing it to hardcore gamers. it seemed like a setpiece designed to reign in people who haven't been keeping up with the next-gen developments. it does seem a bit alarming that not much detail was given to the nuts and bolts of the console. the games looked pretty, but i didn't see a marked improvement over what is currently offered. perhaps the difference would be obvious viewing the footage in 720p? i guess underwhelmed and a bit disinterested is my immediate reaction in total. probably not what microsoft was going for. |

although im not going to made a final judgment until i see them in person additionally controllers for this baby are going to be sky high i mean look at wireless controllers for xbox now a nice one is 70 bucks and thats from a 3rd party developer |
did you also notice the thing where if you want to customize your character have to buy something? is that just wierd or what?

The show itself was horrible.
The controllers look like an incomplete version of the ones they have today. The console looks really bland. Than again it's all about game play, I can't wait to see some of these news games. I'll wait to see what Sony has to offer, and maybe their console will actually look cool. |
Waiting for the PS3 and the Nintendo Revolution announcements...
|
A couple things that have been on the net since the world premiere:
1. System can be shut off and turned on via the wireless controller. May seem stupid to point out, but I just thought it was nifty. 2. System has built in wifi internet access. This is something I thought sounded amazing. I have a cord going from my wireless router to my xbox because there was no way I was going to shell out the money for the wireless station "thingy" they have out there. One thing I am wondering about xbox Live is whether or not your going to have to pay for it. Couldn't find any concrete info, but I didn't look too hard. As far as the show goes, yeah, it was shameful for the most part. I don't like the Killers, however I will give them credit for doing an incredible job live. Everything seemed extremely scripted, but I filtered things out. I loved Perfect Dark on the N64 and I thought it was far superior to Goldeneye. To say the least I am excited to see it in action. Now all that is left is to wait and see what the PS3 and Revolution have to offer. |
I forgot to watch the damn thing.
Will it be re-airing, do y'all know? Also, can you guys list the games, other than the Perfect Dark sequel, that they showed? |

* Instant, out-of-the-box access to Xbox Live features with broadband service, including Xbox Live Marketplace for downloadable content, gamer profile for digital identity, and voice chat to talk to friends while playing games, watching movies, or listening to music
* Built-in Ethernet port * Wi-Fi ready: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g * Video camera ready ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am assuming that by wi-fi ready they have it built in, but I could very well be wrong and if so someone please crush my hopes before I build them up to high. The reason I started to question this was because of IGN's FAQ, here is what they said: "Customers can purchase an additional 802.11a.b, and g peripheral that will allow the system to connect to any wireless access point. Additionally, if users already use a wireless access point on their current setup, this will be supported in Xbox 360." **edit** The sad truth: Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter Designed for versatility and ease, the Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter enhances your Xbox 360 experience in the digital home, seamlessly synchronizing with the Xbox 360 system. You can easily transfer videos and music to your Xbox 360 system from your Media Center PC, chat with your friends, play games via Xbox Live, and more—all without the clutter of wires. * The Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter is highly versatile and supports 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11a. * The Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter is powered seamlessly by your Xbox 360 gaming console, so there's no external power adapter to plug in. * You can transfer high-definition video and CD-quality music from your Media Center PC to your Xbox 360 via 802.11a wireless media support. |
well thats a downer that they are making you purchase the wifi adapter
the more i found out the more the 360 loses its appeal i'll still be buying one though damn video game addiction... |

i also watched the whole thing on MTV. i love the design of the case and how you can change the faceplates. Those built in wireless controllers are a great idea. wow for perfect dark, it looked really nice when they were playing it!

edit: 'perfect dark zero' is the name of the game i'm talking about |
The videos linked below give you a lot more info. The MTV thing sucked, but it was more for the masses; it was just a big commercial.
I didn't start getting excited about it until I watched these videos. I have a 110" screen with a projector capable of 1600 x 1200, so the thought of four-way split-screen 1080i gaming does have me pretty excited. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for good games. http://www.ourcolony.net/ http://www.gamespot.com/features/6124293/index.html |
Just saw the show, I thought it was all hype and low on content. I want to see up closein game video without cutscenes. And without all these lights flashing and quick camera clips to a bunch of random people in a room cheering because they are on MTV. Also, what's with those 3 that call themselves profesional gamers. And he made 80k last year or whatever. How do I sign up for that!
Also, I've tried wireless controllers for both XBox and PS2. They all cause, although minimal, a bit of lag. And that isn't acceptable for online shooters. I just hope that is cleared up. If not, I'll stick with my wires... |
I was greatly disappointed with the MTV special, but I'm still going to get it when it comes out. Better media can be found on the net.
