Fav. fighting game
Didn't see a thread for this but what is your favorite fighter game of all time.
Arcade or on the console... SOUL CALIBER 2 hands down that game is better than DOA, Virtua Fighter and those snk vs. Capcom games |
Soul Calibur definitely
Mortal Kombat 3 (don't give me any shit) in a close second |
Tekken Tag Tournament!
|
Street Fighter 2!
Close second King of Fighter 98. 2D > 3D for Fighting Games IMO. Most of the 3D game are too realistic like VF, Tekken, SC, ect. The realism of it kind of bores me. If I want fights to be that realistic, I'd go outside and engage in a fight. I need to throw fireballs and stuff to enjoy the game. |
Never liked fighting games all that much, but the one I liked the most of the bunch was Bushido Blade on the PS.
|
SOUL CALIBER 2 Owns everything
Ivy roxors my boxors |
Any SNK game or any Virtua Fighter game.
|
I've always sucked, I mean SUCKED, at fighting games. So I generally hate them. The only one I was ever any good at was MK:TA, so that's my favorite.
|
Mortal Kombat 2
Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance There was this fighter on N64 in the early days that was really good, but I can't remember its name. It had some guy made of crystal in it. Clayfighter |
Never been too big on these. They grew old fast. but Tekken Tag was fun. My buddies and I used to play a lot. Good times...

I gotta go with Mortal Kombat just cause without it, the fighting game would be obsolete, well even more than it is now.

Super Street Fighter 2 was about the epitome of the SF series for me. Likewise, I look at MK2 as the pinnacle of the MK set (UMK3 wasn't terrible, but by then they'd gone from brooding and scary to just downright ridiculous and silly). Soul Calibur 1 > Soul Calibur 2, and Tekken 3 was as good as I ever saw a 3d fighter.
All time favorite? Hmm. I can't pick just one. I probably put the most time into MK2, but looking back, the game wasn't very "good." Certain moves just had ultimate priority and playing the game was mostly about picking a character who could hold priority against the guy your opponent picked. I'm torn on the Street Fighter series, because I loved the look and features of Super Street Fighter 2, but the 4 new characters were never balanced enough to be taken seriously. So all in all, I'm going to have to stick with Tekken 3 as my favorite, I think. |
Played Fight Night the other day on XBOX and really did not like the controls
|
Fight Night is good, but after you pound the computer for a few rounds the game changes to Chase The Other Guy Around the Ring 2004.
|
Super smash brothers, hard to say which is better: gamecube version or nintendo 64. I did love the Soul Calibur games, and I know most of you don't consider it a fighting game, but what about Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain. My friends and I have spent countless hours on this game.
|
Little Fighter 2! :D
Seriously though, my first favorites were Street Fighter 2 and Killer Instinct. Lately I've been playing Soul Calibur 2 and Virtua Fighter 4 Evo. All great games, VF4 has so much depth and SC2 has some very cool characters and moves. |
Killer Instinct, Killer Instinct Gold was the version on the 64, for those wondering..
Super smash bros melee, and street fighter 2 as well, very good.. |
Blades of Steel bitches hahahahaha
|
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Mortal Kombat 2, haven't played Deception yet.
|
Dead or Alive 3 for Xbox.... MMmmmm... And I don't just mean the gratuitous jiggling. The game is actually very deep (and it doesn't hurt that I play it at least once a week against my friend who is incredible at it).
Super Smash Brothers (N64). This game was awesome, the way knockouts were done was very inventive (hitting someone off the fight platform). I didn't like Mêlée very much. |
Super Street Fighter 2 will always have a place with me :) It is by far my favourite of the Street Fighter series. The ones before it weren't bad, but each new one added a bit more, until after Super SF2, then it went downhill..
i also liked Samurai Showdown.. it was the first fighting game I played that included weapons that didn't completely throw off the balance.. as far as recent games, I would go for Soul Calibur 2 :) something about fighting with weapons is awesome *grin* |
Samurai Shodown IV! Neo-geo for life n shiznit yo!
PS. I think I'm going to hell for that last bit... |
Samuri Showdown, KI, MK2, SC 2, Street Fighter 2, so many good ones.
|
punchout... and punchout 2 w/ glass joe, bald bull, etc...
|
Soul Cal 2 especially at work.
|
Soul Caliber (preferably on the Dreamcast)

Hm, I'd have to say... ... hm, hard one. See, MK3 was AWESOME. Tons of guys, fatalities, friendships (the best finishing move EVER, why'd they ditch it?!), animalities, babalities... MERCY. Killer Instinct had sweet ass combos. AWESOME combos that were hard to pull off unlike the stuff we have today w/ Soul Calibur and it's many clones. Fighting games of today... I'd have to say the new MK. It has that nostalgic feel to it, finishing moves are back, the levels with their multi-tiered areas and MANY methods of environmental deaths are BAD ASS. I got bored of Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur and their sequels really fast.. I'm talking within a week or two. I haven't gotten sick of MK Deception yet. Even though it's pretty much the same as the others, it has more of a meaning to me since it's MK with the OLD characters back again! I dunno, I don't really like what fighting games have evolved into. I guess it's inevitable with 3D though.. oh well. |
Soul Calibur 2, by far.
|
It's a tie between Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3.
|
Hmm
SF2 the original just pwnz in my book. I was so addicted to that game that i could go through with any character in the arcade and not lose a round, then school about 50 little punk kids... sooo much fun, every one of the characters was balanced and the gameplay was just awesome. There were a few too many cheap ways of winning for me, but hey, i am pretty cheap in a real fight tooo Next up...soul calibur for dreamcast. I haven't played any of the new gen console vesrions of SC 2, but the original just makes me so happy to have shelled out $30 for the DC console :) plus, it's a LOOOOOOOOOONG lived game for me. Ivy Rules, that's all i gotta say after taht...probably SF alpha 3... KI was fun, but not as good as it should have been SFII turbo was probably my pinnacle of the street fighter series. all the originals with speed and air moves...oh yea MK....too cheap to win..uppercut, uppercut, sweep, done still, SF2 always holds that place in my heart :) |
Marvel VS Capcom
With the Guilty Gear series coming in a close second. |
Paq: hehe your comment about SF2 reminded me of when I went to the local swimming pool and would play a little SF2 afterwards and would beat the crap out of some of the people who were all talk (and about 6 years older than me)...
they would use the same cheap moves over and over again and I would rule them with Chun-li... although now, with Super SF2, I prefer Dhalsim.. he is awesome :) and the Gief-man will always hold a place in my heart because his moves just look cool. :) as far as KI.. i never liked it... it seemed too heavy on combos.. if you knew them you beat the shit out of everyone, if you didnt, you had to learn some quickly... never pulled me in.. MK, fatalaties are fun to watch the first time, then they get old, and how come you have 7 distinctly different fighting styles (supposedly) yet, the only differences are in their special moves? they have the same sweep, the same uppercut, etc.. It just never had the varied appeal I see in SF2 or Soulcalibur. |
Hm, Street Fighter Alpha 3 or can I cheat and say Street Fighter Anniversary Collection? Seriously it's between SF2 and SFA3.
I love the newer 3D games, but the new MK's just don't vibe with me. It seems some games place more weight in knowing insane key combo's for special moves. Or just plain long unbreakable combo's. All I ask for is a simple set of moves, maybe a few special moves, and 3 rounds. |
Marvel vs Capcom series with Street Fighter right behind it.
I never got to play much of SC/SC2, my latest system is unfortunately a PS1. God I need a PS2 for MVC2/latest Street Fighter (III the third strike?). |
soul calibur 2 is the shit, and for second place, ima go way back with MK2 for snes, loved that game
|
Tekken Tag. Right Now I'm getting into Virtua Fighter, but the 3 button system is kind of hard to pull of on the ps2. I like most snk games too it's just that most don't have tons of different moves like TTT or VF4
|
Garou:Mark of the Wolves. The newest in the Fatal Fury series. Hot 1v1 action, one of the best SNK fighters ever.
|
*Samurai showdown was so hot in the arcade but i (like countless others) didnt have the $ to actually get the system at home.
*Smash Brothers (the original) I liked better than the sequel....i loved knocking the players straight off the board...gave a new meaning to 'knock em out the box' *DOA - i liked the extensive levels but the jiggling became a distraction. i couldve sworn i seen it jiggle while they were knocked out on the floor. *Tekken 2 - First time i played it and did the grab move with Law...ran right off the guy's chest. I damn near dropped the joystick. That was amazing |
Soul Calibur (didn't like 2 as much)
Tekken 3 Samurai Showdown Last Blade Garou: Mark of the Wolf Bushido Blade |
Fighting games used to be my specialty, I could school anybody back in the 16-bit era. Then when the PS came out, I didn't get one until about the third year of release, and my N64 had maybe two decent fighters on it, so everyone else got ahead of me again. :|
My old-timey 16-bit favorites were SSF2, MK2, and KI. My more recent pics are Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Soul Calibur, DOA3, Guilty Gear X2, and SFA3. |
i'd have to say that SC2 kinda tops my list, but there are so many other fighting games that i love, all the capcom stuff, most snk, Samurai Showdown, bushido blade (one of the first games that you could actually mutilate your opponents, aka, chop off their arms and stuff)
edit : Killer Instinct ties for first place with Soul Calibur 2...... |
