WoW: Stresstest signups open

If any of you are interested in beta testing Blizzard's upcoming Worlds Of Warcraft, you can download a beta version at their website. Once all the stress testers are signed up, the test will begin and last 7 days.

I just downloaded the software today and got my key, now I'm just waiting for the test to begin.

Has the stress test began already? How is that you got on so early? Just first come first serve, eh?

Nope it hasn't started yet; I think they're waiting for the full 100,000 to download the client. If there is a PvP server I'll be on it. I'd be surprised if there's only one server since there will be FAR more than a few thousand trying to play, unless by "stress test" they mean, "crash our servers as fast as possible." I just hope we get some ability to send them feedback so I can beg for the night elf mage.

They are going to try and fill up a server as much as they can. To simulate launch day in a ways. See how much a server can take. Well they do say "servers" nor "Server" I have just been under the impression of one server.

Quote from blizzards FAQ:

Quote:
What is a stress test?

A stress test measures how much traffic a server can accommodate and still function efficiently.
Quote:
Why is Blizzard conducting a stress test for World of Warcraft?

Blizzard is conducting a stress test to measure the maximum operating capacity for the World of Warcraft infrastructure, namely the servers and account-creation pages. Blizzard wants as many people as possible to overload the infrastructure to determine the optimum population a World of Warcraft server can support.
I don't know how people are getting keys so early, or even picking servers? I thought they were waiting for alot of people to join then just flood a server. I'm so happy the're doing this this early, instead of testing it on launch day like SWG

Well, I was put on a waiting list for about 24 hours, but I have yet to have been contacted by Blizzard for my account info. Oh well, better to test now than not at all.

Actually I was on the wait list for about 24 hours, then I got an email from File Planet with my key. What's kinda bothering me right now, is that I have this nice shiny 3GB game installed on my system and I can't do anything with it! Does anyone out there know how I could play this on a "rogue" server...? Or somehow get on Blizzard's beta Battle.net servers?

Simple, just get an account name and password from someone in closed beta...heh. I don't think there are any emulated servers yet, and if anyone tries to make one, plan on Blizzard threatening a lawsuit.

Also this on the WoW page:
Quote:
World of Warcraft Stress Test Beta Update - Block on 08/31/04
FilePlanet has issued all of their free authentication keys for the World of Warcraft stress test beta and will now resume taking applications from FilePlanet subscribers for the remaining keys. The stress test will start shortly after the sign-up period ends. The actual date is undetermined as of yet, but when the stress test beta is ready to start, an announcement will be posted on www.fileplanet.com. Please do not contact Blizzard on the status of the stress test beta. If you have any questions about the signups or the upcoming World of Warcraft stress test beta, please check out our Stress Test FAQ.
Looks like it's not going to be much longer anyway.

World of Warcraft Stress Test Beta Set to Begin - Indoflaven on 09/01/04
The World of Warcraft stress test beta is just a day away. Hundreds of thousands of gamers applied for the stress test this past week, and FilePlanet was up to the task, issuing over 100,000 accounts and providing the stress test beta client for download. With the signups and downloads complete, we are just about ready to welcome these gamers into World of Warcraft for the very first time.

Starting tomorrow, September 2nd at 12:00 noon PDT, stress test beta participants will be able to create their World of Warcraft accounts and begin playing the game. Their participation will help us optimize our account-creation and server infrastructure, and enable us to deliver the best online experience possible when the game launches later this year. We want to thank everyone who applied for the stress test beta, and we look forward to seeing the new testers online tomorrow when the stress test beta starts.

Selected stress test beta participants should keep an eye on their inboxes for an email containing further instructions. For more information on the World of Warcraft stress test beta, please check out our FAQ. To get a head start on learning how to play World of Warcraft, take a look at our beta strategy guide.

I'm on Sargeras too! BeefJones' the name. What makes WoW so different from all the other MMORPGs out there is the sheer dependence on quest. You seriously get a crapload of exp. from quests. I mean, WAY more than you get from most other games. WoW is almost entirely quest-driven. That's been my impressions from playing the game first hand, and watching my roommate play it for a good few hours. I mean, he literally probably had 30 different quests going. I like it alot so far, having only been able to play about 45 minutes of the game myself.

oh man get on it! ya it relies heavily on quests ive found out through playin more. most of them require you to kill x amount of mobs, so you get a feel for combat and get your skills up meanwhile gettin exp for killing the mobs themselves and then exp for the quest itself. it makes it more interesting when you know your actually killing stuff for a purpose other than trying to get a level. your doing for a level and a quest! :P.

Well. after tonite I hit level 20 (I'm on one of the pvp servers don't know the name), undead warrior. I must say... even though I guess it would be interesting to be in the open beta, even if I were invited I would probably give the account away. I don't want to play the game for 1-2 more months learning every single thing about the game. IMHO, that ruins the whole point of buying it retail!

Though, I love the instanced dungeons. I had a blast today going through with a group consisting of myself, a level 19 priest, level 21 rogue, level 21 warlock, and a level 20 mage. I enjoy the role of the tank, though I must say... even though dying in this game has no real drawback, you sure do die alot! If your undead, around the same level as me, you should head to the forest south of the newbie zone, grab a nice big group and do all of the "elite" quests!

You're exactly right. I've been playing for months now and now I honestly can't say if I'll buy it. It feels like I've did everything already...ahh what the hell, I know I'll buy it, but playing the beta for months really does ruin the game big time.

I just added a character Saturday on Yesra called ChurchJones, already up to 10. I'm playing about 4-5 hours a day at most, so there's no way I'm gonna get one of those positions for the closed beta. Guess I'll just have to start over on a friend's account.

Not wanting to spoil too much of the game for myself, I made lots of characters. Played them up to about lvl 15 or so. I wanted to try all the characters to get a feel for all the classes, and races. I figured i didnt want to get to a high lvl, get attached to it, then in a couple of days. POOF! gone. SO i made a bunch.

This game has such beautiful art. And runs so nicely on my crap computer. I guess ill drop SWG again for the second time when this is realesed. I fell in love with the Trolls, Dwarfs (Females), and Taurens. I'm gonna start a Undead character today mabey too. Wow this is a fun game.

Wow so good... so good.

At first glance wasn’t really impressed with this game. It seemed just like every other fantasy title out there, nothing new or innovative. However my opinion of the game has changed while my initial observations remain the same. While other games push for new features WoW goes for polished perfection and I have to say that they reached to their goal. WoW is so amazingly polished in it's game play that it is by far the most enjoyable MMO I have ever played.

[edit]

I got a lvl20 Dwarf Warrior on the Segreit server. Though leveling is starting to get rather hard, I was wondering if any one has any tips on how to speed it up. I have been going solo this whole time.

play with others. I know that sometimes you really don't feel like teaming up with people, but the elite quests absoloutly NEED a party, and they give mad xp and loot. Plus exploration doesn't hurt.
I've got a lvl 19 orc warrior, a lvl 9 undead priest (wierd, huh?), a lvl 9 human Paladin, a lvl 7 troll shaman, and a lvl 1 human warlock.
